Probably the safest and least integrated community in OKC is Gallardia. It would also be close to your work.

Gaillardia living community - golf course property - gated communities in Oklahoma

Gaillardia is very expensive though. My dad's company does about 50% of the framing for the homes in Gaillardia and as much as I am glad it has kept him busy and making a good living, those houses are horribly overpriced. You could buy a nice home for the price of the tiny .25 acre lot that the 4,000-18,000 sqft house is being built on. I know Gaillardia is an "exclusive" thing and all that, but I worked for my dad for about 4 years framing houses in there and I would never spend my money on a home in that neighborhood. You could build a nicer, larger home on 10-20 acres for about 2/3 of the price of a 5,000 sqft home on at best .25 acres.

There are nice neighborhoods all over the place. You really need to be a little more specific, but in NW OKC there is Val Verde, The Greens, Remington (houses aren't built very well), Fairview Farms, Ski Island, Silver Lake, Nichols Hills, Crown Heights...or for more of a budget The Village has some really nice areas, Edgemere Park still has some decent priced homes, there are many more that are in great areas.

There are also a lot of nice neighborhoods in Edmond. Lots of new ones. A lot of the new neighborhoods that are being built in fields have no trees and are cheap. They are built cheap as well unfortunately so I'd be careful looking at those. You can send me a message if you have any specific questions. I've been working in and around the construction industry here in OKC for quite a while.

Default Thanks

Thanks for all the great info. Does any one know of a good area to rent a house, that is what we will be doing for awhile......don't want to rush in to the purchase of a home yet. Want to be in a safe area as we don't know anyone there.
Thanks

You might look at The Village. It's the city on the north side of Nichols Hills. It would be close to your work and it's a fairly safe area with a pro-active police department. Home prices and rentals are fairly priced. Stay away from the apartment complexes to the south Quail Springs between Memorial and NW 122nd. They look nice but's it's a high crime area. Stay out of the WalMart on Memorial and Penn after about 7:00 in the evening.

If I remember correctly, there are some pretty nice duplexes for rent over off of 122nd and MacArthur.

North of 122nd on McArthur on the east side of the road. The ones at the intersection on the west side are in a slow state of decline.

Hi all,
I have not been on the site for a few months. We're moving down from Canada in July and just wanted to weigh in on the debate about where you live determines who you are. I was absolutely gung ho about living in an older district of OKC like Mesta Park, but after checking it out with my family, we determined that the pricing was too high for our budget. As well, we don't know how long we will be here, so wouldn't want to get involved in any renovating etc. We came down in February with our two reluclant teen boys to check things out- and they voted for Edmond. This may have something to do with the fact that we are coming from a small city of 30,000, which is close to a larger centre. I had a bias against Edmond cause the words cookie cutter make me cringe. I've lived in suburbia on the prairie for 9 years and was really looking forward to the aciton of the city. Lo and behold, to my surprise, we found several gorgeous older areas in Edmond. I came back down two more times and saw tons of houses in Edmond. In the end we found just what we were looking for- a HUGE backyard, a pool, a cottage-feeling home, huge wide streets and lots of space, tons of trees. I get the sense that it will be very friendly and no pressure to be like everyone else. It's like living in the country but not. As for my demographic, just fyi, I probably what you would refer to as a democrat. I love unique things. Family is number one. I figure we are close enough to OKC that we can soak up all the arts, and multicultural events we want. To us it seems very close. We are used to living with much more traffic. Also, I am amazed by all the trees, greenery, creeks, lakes, and the friendliness of the people.

If you're a fan of Tommy Douglas you might want to keep it under your hat...........remember, liberal and conservatives here prefer to fight it out than discuss things...........

Retired.? Maybe you should try out Surrey Hills. It would be perfect. They have golf courses, nice homes and great schools if you have kids/grand kids.
