It also reinforces that those who are overly hateful towards gays often have some "issues" with their self. Latent Tendencies, party of one!

As an out-of-the-closet gay man who was born, raised and still lives in Oklahoma City, I can say with first-hand authority on the subject, that this city is NOT gay-friendly. True, violent gay bashings are probably rare, and I have thankfully never been the victim of such a crime. The infrequent occurences of violent gay bashings, however, do not a gay-friendly city make. Oklahoma is one of the most socially conservative states in the country and gay people often seem to be Public Enemy Number 1. Working with the general public, I encounter subtle homophobia all the time, and on occasion, outright mocking. There is a sizable portion of this state and city that choose to remain almost willfully ignorant. With that said, it could be much worse! There are gay people here in OKC. There is a gay community...bars, organizations, churches. It's not San Francisco, but we're here! I have tried to make the most of it. Also, someone mentioned gay people do better here if they are quiet about it. Well, this pisses me off! I decided a long time ago to be me, ignorant homophobes be damned! Now, I enjoy riling up the fundies with my gay sticker on my vehicle and wearing my rainbow necklace! If I lived in San Francisco, I probably wouldn't bother! Ha!

Yes, sadly, okcguy31, the part about the ignorant people is true. But there are just as many straights who don't give a rat's behind about what anyone else's preference or lifestyle.
All people should be judged on their character, not their race, wage, car they drive, or sexual preference. But then, that would be a perfect world, eh? LOL.
OTOH, some people do not feel the need to wave banners or put bumper stickers on their car. Some do, and if that is their way, I don't have a problem with it.
I don't care to have people telling others they should be OUT, LOUD, and PROUD just as much as I don't care to hear people telling gays they are going to hell, get back in the closet, etc.

I've been thinking about this thread a bit, and realized I am not particularly gay friendly. But then I am not particularly straight friendly either. Bottom line, I don't like anybody all that well, and the more they impact my life, the less I like them.

In this economy, I guess you gotta go where the money sends you.
I'd recommend Norman.

Be Strong And Move To OKC And Make That Money...
What differences does it make if OKC is gay friendly or "not" it's
tolerant and that's all that you really need..Be Like Us African American
Our's Haters Couldn't Stop Us From Moving "Anywhere" Even When They
Were Lynching "Us".....try Getting A Place Near Bricktown Or In Norman.
