Default Indoor Activities To Get A Break From The Heat?

My kids are 4 and 7 and on days like today (and pretty much all week) when it is 105+ they get pretty antsy!! Of course our pool is closed to deep cleaning, so that's out. They ve got alot of built up energy and it's too hot for outdoor activities. We just moved here and are not used to this kind of heat.

what are some good activies for young kids to do indoors around here? I have seen places like indoor playgrounds in other cities, but being new here, I really don't know what's available.

If anyone has any suggestions, that'd be great. I am looking for low cost things preferably.

Hey Pixiepony, I don't know how far you live from Moore but there is a really cool (brand new) YMCA over @ EarlyWine park.

I was there last week with the family and it's got a game room, pool, childcare, and excellent workout facility. Don't know if that's your thing, but the EarlyWine YMCA immediately came to mind when I read your question.

There's not too many indoor playgrounds (except in some of the larger churches and malls), but the OmniPlex (science museum) might be a cool day getaway with your kiddos....lots of cool stuff there. Also, there are some pretty big malls in the OK City area...Quail Springs, 50 Penn Place, Crossroads, and Sooner Fashion come to mind. Your kiddos are 4 and 7....they may not appreciate (or enjoy, LOL) the Cowboy Hall of Fame, but it is a really fun place for when they get older.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy Oklahoma.

pixiepony, This is a record breaking Summer for sure!!

Bass and Catfish had some great ideas! Also most McDonald's have indoor play areas and after they run off the energy the local library can be a good diversion.

Check here to see if there is a splash park near you: City of Oklahoma City | Spraygrounds We have a couple in our area and they are VERY popular with the kids.

Thanks LadyRobyn.

Yeh, actually right next to the EarlyWine YMCA in Moore is a really nice waterpark (I think it may be called EarlyWine Water Park)....it's a little bit bigger than a splash-park (couple of big water slides and a deepend)......but there is also a shallow area with fountains and such. I actually had my kiddos there before we went to the YMCA to finish up the day.......super-fun!

What about the local library and their summer programs??? As an adult, even I still enjoy going to the library.

What about the Starplex movie theater at North Park Mall? All movies on Tuesday are only $1.00 and all other days are only $2.00.

This site is very useful for indoor activities Oklahoma City Indoors | Oklahoma City Attractions | Parents Connect Local
I highly recommend the Musuem of Natural History in Norman. It's inexpensive and fun if your kids like dinosaurs.
Your local library is also a great place to do indoor activities or story time once a week with the kids.

If you're close to Mustang, they have a fun pool with the beach type entry, water slide and shallow kids play area. I've also heard great things about pelican bay waterpark in Edmond however it is pricey (go figure).

Thanks for all the suggestions!!!We've done the majority of the museums around here and in Norman! So looking for some other ideas!

I love the splash parks and the movie ideas! Cool! I can't wait to check those out. Since this week is rather nice compared to last week, I'll try out one of the splash parks!

Thanks for all the suggestions!! I can't wait to start trying them out!!!!

I took my son to Science Museum Oklahoma yesterday, he wore himself out in there, there are tons of interactive, hands on stuff, for kids AND adults.
Your kids are the perfect age for that place, if I lived in OKC, i would definately get a membership.
and the best thing, there are plenty of benches so the parents can relax and let the kids go wild.
