Default Need some Advice Please

My husband just recently lost his job, and we're living here in Lawton presently. There's not a lot of jobs out here and we will be receiving unemployment very soon. My question is.. Will an apartment complex accept you if you're receiving unemployment? I know a lot of places want you to make at least 3 times the amount of rent, and we do (barely) but we do. We wanted to move to OKC where there's more opportunity for work. I just don't know if an apt complex will shine us away because of unemployment or not. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

You make 3x the amount of rent in unemployment payments? He lost his job, but are you working?

Hazel, in the past things may have been a bit different. But with so many job losses and such an increase in unemployment, you shouldn't have any problems with apartment complexes. Just be upfront and explain your situation. Let them know you will have a monthly income and that he's out looking for work now to improve your income. If one complex turns you down, just head for the next one cause you'll surely find managers who will work with you. AND the fact that you do qualify by income, you shouldn't have any problems at all.

Thank you very much Jammie. I'm going to be calling around a few places tomorrow and see which ones we'd like to see and talk with them. I appreciate the help.

Also, I would look into subsidized housing, it really helped me out when I needed it, I rented at an apartment complex for 2 years until I got back on my feet. Subsidized housing works by calculating your rent as 30% of your income, which does include unemployment. Try 'college view 236' apartments in Edmond, which is just north of OKC. It is in a nice area located by UCO.
