Coming from London, you're in a country FULL of mis-information. It would be saddening to know that you would actually buy into to endless banquets of bull**** the media serves up, and people eat it helping after helping.
Fair point. I have heard that Missouri and Kansas are more religious than Oklahoma. However, what surprises me about OKC specifically is that it is a large city, and the state capital, yet it is still massively religious. Sure you can find heavily religious "communes" in Texas, but the big cities, Dallas, Houston, Austin, are massively more progressive than OKC.

I'm not sure what your comments about the British media are about. Are you talking about the tabloids? Yes these are trash but Britain is renowned for good journalism.

Yes, I'm a big Spurs fan - very deductive of you. Are you a Gooner by any chance? How I ended up in OKC is a long story and because of my area of work (academia) finding a suitable job elsewhere is difficult, but I plan on leaving this year.

Dallas and Houston and more religious than you think. Austin not so much. I wouldn't really use religion to gauge how progressive a city is. Are you saying that Salt Lake City is not progressive? Wouldn't you agree if Oklahoma City's population growth picks up the pace, attracting thousands of young professionals, than a large enough community of such people would establish a stronger foothold in Oklahoma City. By keeping that from happening is pigeon-holing Oklahoma City.

To me, a progressive city is one that is investing heavily in its future by adding and improving its amenities, and is working to create a better business climate, like in Oklahoma City. A city that is not progressive is one with a government that sits on its hand and doesn't care to create a better climate, and its populace turns down package after package to help improve a city. I guess that is where our definition differs.

No, not talking about Britain. I am talking about America. Britain has much better journalism and CNN, MSNBC and the other joke-tard networks could take a few lessons from your country's media outlets.

In your defense, when comparing Oklahoma City to other American cities, we're not on the level you would like to see. What is happening is that Oklahoma City is adding amenities long overdue and is working to create better quality of life. I guess you would have had to see Oklahoma City in 1993 to see what I am trying to drive home.

I can't wait to return to Oklahoma City (hopefully in a few years), because I want to do my part to make a difference for my city.

Oklahoma forum used to be a fun and funny place to be. Now it's become a battleground. I think I'll be a Lady Robyn and take a break for a while.

That is so true since so many, many OKC area people look up in absolute adoration of Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern since she is so passionately against the homosexuals. Lots of OKC area people feel homosexuals should be vigoursly discrimated against once it becomes exposed as to just who they are.

Yeh, I'm not a big Kern fan and I do not want to discriminate against anyone.

IMO, it is a very positive thing that Oklahoma is a state that is largely dominated by Evangelical culture.

Are you so sure about that? Only a thousand or so showed in support of her little moral declaration out of 1.3 million. Oh yeah, she sure is popular. Pshh.

Everyone I talk to in OKC think she is a village idiot. And her little island in Warr Acres is about the only backing she has. Every city in American has a super religious pocket. For OKC, it is Warr Acres and Bethany. For Houston, its Conroe.

I'm all for the religious aspects of OK, but the fact that homosexuals are outcasts or discriminated against just doesn't set quite right with me. Sorry, but it's not my place to judge someone who's different or make them feel like they're worthless as a human being.

Yeah, if somebody wants to believe in talking snakes and bearded men in the sky, that's great, but don't infringe on others. Don't try and force it on people and don't flaunt it. Plus, it's all the political nonsense that comes with the religion that gets me. As soon as you start forming and supporting your political views with religion rather than reason and common sense, you're in trouble.
