Default large dog apts.

We will be moving to OKC soon and need an apt. near Tinker that accepts a 50 lb. dog. Does anyone know of one? Boxers rule! Thanks!

Sorry no one has responded as of yet. I don't live near that area, but a few things come to mind. Are you military? You may contact the base vet and ask their office for off base apt suggestions. Depending how close to Tinker you are wanting to live, another idea is to call Midwest City area vets and ask the same question. I live in Edmond, and many people who work at Tinker live around here. Proximity and budget are typically players on how close to Tinker people live. Another suggestion would be to call area rescues for their advice. Try calling the Oklahoma Humane Society 405-286-1229 or even better you can try emailing or calling Cynthia Armstrong. Someone in her office may be able to help. Meet Cynthia Armstrong--Oklahoma | The Humane Society of the United States

Here's an article with several websites to search: Finding Animal-Friendly Apartments | The Humane Society of the United States I tried the first suggested website on this link and it pulled up several apts, but it looks like it will take you getting on the phone and double checking.

In my experience as a large dog owner, it will cost you as far as a deposit goes. If your dog is obedience trained tell them so, even provide the certificate of training. Although I have never lived in an apartment with a large dog, I have had to make travel arrangements for us and our dogs in various hotels for stays of a few days up to a month. I always offer my dogs health records, a copy of their Canine Good Citizenship certificates, a copy of their pet therapy certifications and assure them that my dogs will not cause damage and that I will willing provide my credit card to cover anything damaged. When we thought we were moving to Colorado for work I was encountering a big problem trying to secure a rental property with two large dogs. I made a portfolio with pictures of my dogs and all the above information. Plus I was on the phone constantly trying to find a property manager who was an animal lover and could empathize with our situation. It doesn't hurt and it helped!

Good luck!

Thanks for the helpful suggestions! We are retired military and the base vet idea was great. We thought that living near the base our first year there would be best while we get acclimated to the area. We are also open to renting a house if necessary. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I also live in edmond and know that wimbledon square apartments (in edmond) allow dogs of all sizes with a very low deposit, somewhere around the $100 range, and it is refundable. My friend lives there and has 2 black labradors!

Awesome...thanks for sharing! Us animal folks need to help each other out and maintain good animal manners to ensure that we can have housing options.
