Info. about OK...
My husband and I are thinking of moving from Las Vegas to Oklahoma City in about a year. We are looking for quiet living so we can start a family and have a nice house. We are first time home buyers and looking for something at around 180,000 to 225,000. I am just looking for information about living in OKC and the quality of life and neighborhood information from residents. Thanks for any information.

I only have experience living in Edmond, but it's been a really good experience, so I would recommend looking in the suburb of Edmond. There are plenty of houses within your price range, and it's a growing area with really good schools.

From what I understand Edmond is a really nice area. You can find a super house for that price range. Good luck!

I live in Dallas and hear many great things about Oklahoma City. But, I cant seem to find any info from people about Oklahoma City(on city data) other than cows and dust. If someone from Oklahoma City can give me a REAL response it would be appreciated. Or if someone can lead me to a site that would actually help me. I dont like being led for tourism and relocation for the sake of rivalry.

I also would recommend the Edmond area. I have lived in OKC my whole life and have lived mostly on the NW side. I recently got married and have been living in a condo, but we are anxious to get a bit bigger place, because it is the four of us. We have been looking into new homes ourselves up to 175k. Some neighborhoods we have found are from about 157th and Penn up to 169th and Penn. The home builders are ideal homes and DL or DH or is it DR (??) Horton Homes. They seem to have a lot of choices in floor plans etc.
Oklahoma is a great place to raise a family. I work with Travelling Nurses and I have one lady who left Vegas to come on an assignment in Lawton, OK and she said she wants to stay travelling in OK or Texas area because the people are so much nicer and it is not such a transient (sp?) environment. Even though she is just a "temp" she feels at home.
Good Luck!

hey there Crasher!
What would you like to know that I could maybe answer for you. My husband lived in Dallas for many years and just moved here about 8 months ago. I can probably answer some good questions for you.

Quality of life is higher in OKC proper. More culture, local rests, historical homes and mansions ect. A restored old building, in my opinion, is better than a new one. Huge investments are being made in the inner historical neighborhoods and you can find a price that is the same as Edmond or any other cookie cutter city.

Look at the city-data page for Midwest City, OK and read the forum "Transfering (sic) to Tinker," for some info about the area.
Good luck with your move.

N. W OKC is the place hands down! Beautiful homes, Lake Hefner, shopping!!
Most of this area was developed during the last oil boom in the 80s.The upper
crust of the time built up this area. Golf, parasailing, fine resturants, fishing.
Its all here. You want a safe neighborhood? Its here. Brand new homes are being built everywhere in N.W OKC.Excellent schools, parks with fishing ponds,
and public trails everywhere. Its "TA TA" my friend!! Next to downtown,we have more office buildings than any part of the city. You will get a bang for your buck here!!!!!!!!!
