We are within walking distance of two wonderful parks, a green space, lively Western Avenue with its fun shops and festive restaurants. We're also close the vibrant Asian District which is hopping and so interesting. It is truly the most unique area of OKC. If you go anywhere else you'll see boring architecture, cookie-cutter housing additions, big box stores. Not so in Midtown and Downtown. It's THE hot place to be!

You hit the nail on the head. We have 5 years to suck up all the old houses, before people like Banta jump in and buy blocks of them/restore(really paint and small silly things like pick UP THE TRASH) and sell for twice the price. You forgot the Paseo area....sooo many neighborhoods. I cant imagine when most are all restored. It will be ridiculous, because the beauty will span for miles and miles! Continue the REVIVAL- OKC! Oh, I live in inner city also and love it. The parks are incredible. The White Flight is coming back DOWNTOWN to fill the gaps and they aint stores!

N.W Oklahoma City!!
Who wouldnt want to live by lake Hefner? What a beautiful clean place.
The shopping is excellent, the homes are in all price ranges. The schools
are great. Lots of office buildings. Several housing additions have community
fishing ponds, as well as many of the public parks. N.W OKC has alot of trees.
You can tell a lot of thought went into developing this area. I moved from
southside, and love it here.

Hello,
Would you happen to know any of the zip codes for any of the 9 historical neighborhoods you mentioned? I'm fairly certain we will be relocating from California. I think we may rent while we are looking for a home to buy. Thank you,
Robin Rnee

I would say Moore. South OKC...
Once you go past I-240 its like everything changes...It turns really nice...
I would just say anywhere between SW 89 to 149th. OKC address, but Moore schools.
I don't think the South of I-240 is that bad...to an extent.
I live on 49th and Walker. If you drive from about 46th street and drive straight south towards the highway, Its very nice. A few overgrown trees and a few houses that are unkept but that area is really decent. The neighborhood between Southern Oaks and Webster...Moore Style.
But its OKC schools....=/

You have got to be kidding?? Lake Hefner looks like a farmers big pond with a rock wall around it. Lake Overholser is twenty times more visually appealing. I wouldn't want to live by either one. Soon to be neighborhoods overrun by illegal aliens and crackheads.

Give Lake Hefner a break....stiff. I remember when it really was a duck pond. Its a nice area that hosts sailboat championships, tons of trails, wetlands, golf courses, parks, tons of development and entertainment. Have you been there lately. Its not supposed to look like Grand lake with all its natural beauty. Its an urban lake that sits high so you can see the city and is smack in the middle of it all with an emphasis on activities. Its pretty nice and I have seen many lakes all over the place. I have heard nothing but great reviews. Lake O is about to get huge bicycle trails. Here are some 'ok' pics of Hefner.....

My family will be relocating from New Jersey to the Oklahoma City area at the end of January. Houses aren't selling too well here, so we may have to rent for a while before our house here sells and we can buy something in OK. Question: I have a 10th grade daughter who I would like to put into a school that she can stay in until she graduates. Therefore, we have to rent where we would eventually buy. From what I'm reading here, Edmond sounds like the place to be. How are rentals in Edmond? Are there a lot? Also I'm not too interested in being near a whole lot of college tenants, which a lot of the apartment complexes seem to cater to. Both my husband and I will be looking for jobs (I'm in taxation customer service and he's a system administrator for a pool company). Are there jobs in Edmond, or will we have to commute to OKC? I also have an 18 year old son who I hope to enroll in the community college. Any advise/suggestions/help anyone can give us would be very, very appreciated. This is a major move for us, but with prices (and taxes) the way they are here in New Jersey, we don't think our kids have much of a chance for a quality life. Thanks to anyone who responds.

Ok, I give. Since it rained and Lake Hefner has water in it, it no longers looks like a farmers muddy pond. The summer of 2006 most of those boats and boat houses were many, many feet from the water. My pet pevee is the fake lighthouse on the east side.
