Yeah, Tulsa's crime rate is horrible, just horrible; especially for a city its size. It is relegated to mostly the North side, but that's still no excuse and they had better do something about it or it will forever be a huge black mark on an otherwise great city. I believe economic improvements will help that to some degree, but there needs to be some kind of community outreach programs implemented to help further economic development and interest in the North side. It is still a part of Tulsa, and the problems there to be addressed.

" Okc Is Right For You Too!! "

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

No, it's only "right" for those who are:

Evangelical Christian (and I mean the kind that wont rest til you've accepted their God as your own.)
Anti-gay (Cause those evil gays are gonna come git you!)
Anti-abortion (baby murderers)
Anti-environment (Jesus is coming back soon, so lets trash the place and not care what we do to it)
Pro-Creationism (The Earth is 3000 years old. End of story.)
Pro-George W. Bush (I wont even go there... He got over 60% of our Okla. votes last time...)

So many people I see posting in forums like this one are drinking this "OKC is wonderful" kool-aid. ("Ooh, MAPS!" ... "Ooh, we're getting the NBA!"... "Ooh, OKC is a big, cool major city now!" ....) Whatever. I fail to see anything cool about Bricktown, with its canal to nowhere, parking lots and Bass Pro Shops... (really, what major city has a Bass Pro in its downtown?... What a joke!)

Granted, the city has cleaned up its downtown a bit. The new ballpark is cute. But MAPS really didn't do much more than put lipstick on a pig. But seriously, I can't help but wonder if some of you have ever left Oklahoma and seen other cities!

I grew up here, left as soon as I could and came back in my late twenties. And this place isn't much different than it used to be. It's still boring, dirty, ugly, windy and rife with bible-thumpers and ultra-conservatives. Sure, OKC is great... for those people. But don't let the cheerleaders fool ya, this is not the place for someone who isn't one of the type of people I mentioned. So if you don't fit in with the Jim Inhofe/Iraq War/Bush-supporting rednecks.... you'll hate it here. And if you are the young professional type who wants a city with cool loft apartments, buzzing nightlife, cultural diversity, scenery and great mass transit, then may I suggest... Portland, Oregon. (Cause you sure wont find those things here!)

Sorry to be a buzzkiller, but I'd hate for some poor soul to read all these glowing comments and move here without knowing how this place really is.

I just can't help but laugh at some of the comments I've read (some of the comments written by someone who I swear must be smoking an illegal substance.) I mean... wow!

Maybe some of us like to see the positive side of things. I can't help but wonder why you moved back. Seriously, you seem to hate it there and seem miserable.

I'm miserable because I'M BORED!!! It's boring here! I'm on a website posting about how bored I am because that's how boring it is here! What am I to do on a summer weekend that doesn't involve going out and getting drunk (we do have plenty of bars) or going to some dirty red lake where I get eaten alive by bugs? Seriously, if you aren't into football, rodeos or church... then what on earth is there to do here?? Answer: Nothing. I looked at the Oklahoma Gazette's website to check out what was going on this weekend... Hmmm... some church was hosting the play "Bye, bye Birdie" and, well, I can't remember what else I read because it wasn't anything interesting. Oh, wait, there was a ballgame. Whoopdeedoo. Minor league baseball. How fun. So don't worry, OKC'ers... I have a year left til I get my degree. Then I'm out the door! This place sucks and will always suck. It's ugly, dirty and boring.... waaayyyy boring. I've had more fun in Tulsa than in this place, and that's sad.

I'm also wondering why you came back to OKC.

So tell us, what were the interesting things you were doing in the city where you have been living?

There are TONS of fun, exciting things to do in OkC. I think some people just get it in their minds that they don't like an area and find reasons to dislike it.

We lived in Oklahoma for 60 years, most of it in OKC. We loved vacationing in the Pacific Northwest for 20 years, so we moved to western Washington two years ago. For us it's become one of those cases of "nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there." Before long we'll be moving back to the wide open spaces, perhaps Colorado or OKC.

The subject of religion appears many times in the OKC and Oklahoma forums. The negative posters tend to say that the religious people won't rest until they convert you and drag you to their services.

I went to church as a social thing when I was a kid. My husband and I are decent, law-abiding, hard-working people, but we don't go to church. We worked over thirty years at Tinker AFB, so we were exposed to thousands of people. Occasionally someone might ask what church we went to but it was the same as asking where we lived or what kind of pets we had. Several of our close friends are very religious and active in their churches but nothing was ever said about our lack of religious activity.

Ked, calm down. Take yourself out for a long walk and enjoy the birds and the trees and the flowers. Find a peaceful park and sit amongst the flowers and read a good book. (Preferably one with a fountain because the sound is calming) Find a friend and bowl a few lines. Check out the movies and go to one. Go out and have a coke with a friend just to get away for a while. Spend the afternoon at the swimming pool. Do you like to shoot pool? How about rollerskating or rollerblading?

I do understand how you're feeling right now. I get periods like that during the winter when I can't get out and do the things I just mentioned to you.

I've lived here 30 years and you're absolutely right. It is boring here, overly Christian and overly Republican, and the people who like it best like it that way. They tend to be old people, too. And, if you've never lived anywhere else, it's hard to understand why someone might not enjoy it here. Bear in mind that the media tends to underreport some things and overreport others. You would for example think that it's all white here, but as an African-American with a lot of family here, I can tell you that it's not. I can tell you that if you like to listen to smooth jazz on the radio, you can't do it in Oklahoma City, however if you visit Tulsa, it's readily available. I personally believe Tulsa is the better of the two major cities.

What are you getting your degree in, by the way?

WHAT? I think you should look over the gazette again....Now I have to post the actual events/arts/music/everything that happens in a typical week from the actual gazette that I actually read.......;what a pain....if anyone wants to look up the up coming events or whatever in a metropolis of 1.3 mil the gazette has a great website. This actually gives real info instead of mindless attacks....(hope your a grad stud)...at least. I teach kids that get degrees.

live music....This does not include...art openings....concerts....events...la de da da ....nothing BUT live music and one day.

Aug 1st- A WEDNESDAY NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

500 miles to memphis....the blue note
aaron newman....mickey mantles steakhouse
adam wood....wormy dog saloon
the clique featureing speedy west....friends
denise smith and band...juniors
the fictioneers....deep duece
ezra furman and the harpoons w/unmarked cars....the conservatory.
hals trio.....pearls lakeside
the healers....bora bora
jesse sykes and the sweet hereafter....lit
louis lopez....montery jacks
open mic w aaron newman...the red rooster
otis walkins...the biting sow
randy smith....nancys 57th street lighthouse
the remaiders mark gallowwayand rick troops route 66 road house
snow patrol okc amphitheatre
time machine...baker st. pub and grill.

They range in all genres....way more punk/rock/jazz than country.

look over the website and see fur yerselves...Look over sat and fri even sun or mon....that way you can find facts. These posters need to find western ave. LOL and of course some friends to take them there!!!!

By the way...it becomes way to obvious when posters throw up...in a last sentence opinion of....Tulsa is basically better line. LOL.

I love Tulsa...but come on....at least make your post believable. Give me some REAL info.....More than just knowing the name of my common oklahoma gazette or a stupid politician.LOL. Oh yeah.....LOVIN' YOUR TAX DOLLARS WHILE YOU ARE HERE.....NBA coming soon and we will need another huge arena for those SONICS. )....Ford center just doesnt cut it for us anymore(becoming a spoiled city)....we want bigger...more and better.
