Whether its a sporting event, a night on the town, OKC has it. Do you like lakes? shopping? low cost of living? OKC has it too. The job market is good to
excellent right now. OKC is a oil city. So even though we are more diverse than 20 years ago, oil is still king. Companies like Cheasapeke and DEVON, play a huge part in moving OKC forward. And the greatest thing to happen to
OKC was the "MAPS PROJECTS" an almost completed wish list of city projects
that have moved this place beyond dreams. Library, Ford Center, Ball Park,
all new schools, 7 miles of water in our downtown river. The list was huge.
We as a city pulled this off. That says volumes about this great place to live.

Good grief. Opinions are opinions. But make a little more sense when it comes to my lady OKC. Everyone and their dog/cat knows OKC is about to get the NBA. Do you even find that important?
The Maps projects were a complete success and led to a huge renaissance for OKC. Taxing the poor? This was a city wide penny sales tax. Everyone paid for it. Do you even know she has a downtown arena?
All the Maps projects are completed....So you might want to do a lil' research if you are curious about what is going on here. The city has moved on to two other Maps and is about to undergo Core to Shore....
http://okc.gov/planning/coretoshore/...%20Meeting.pdf
Good for OKC she should have strict codes for cracks in driveways or tires on the grass! Thats great info. Keep up the image OKC...Lets try to keep her pretty.
Also...Surprize OKC is not crime infested like many want to believe...Check her stats on city data. Considering her beautiful size...Crime stats are somewhat low when you compare other cities of the same population.
Anyway, welcome to the forum. I could really give a ton of reasons why you are mistaken....BUT...Here is a rep point for your participation.

MAPS had nothing to do with the String of Pearls. The String of Pearls was an urban renewal project in the 1980s that never happened because the city was hit by the oil bust. MAPS didn't even exist on paper until 1991, and wasn't voted for by the city until 1993. Don't even compare the two. The String of Pearls has been long since forgotten.
And crime? Puhlease, you haven't seen crime until you've lived in Houston. I miss Oklahoma City's quality of life. It is definitely a happening place, and I know in the next decade, good things will be happening there that we didn't think would be possible in Oklahoma.
Not calling you a liar, just be careful with your facts when representing Oklahoma. We have a volatile image.

live in the outskirts of town where the people are friendly and the smaller towns apprciate the working man

so that being said
I LOVE OKLAHOMA not the city
all places have there good and bad i think the best things about OKLAHOMA is the rual small towns outside the city and with speed limits of 70 mile per hour you can reasonably drive to these smaller areas to live where its pieceful and quite and no city housing violations
Like meter maids driving up to your house miles away from where they should be and giving you a ticket because you have 1 tire on the grass or you getting a ticket for 4500 dollars because you have to many cracks in your driveway and them giving you 30 days in december to have a new one put in (knowing that concrete wont cure poured in below freezing temps
like i said live in the best state there is but dont live in ok city the reast of the state is far better to live in work there great
hope this helps some

Considering relocating from Long Island, NY.
Can you suggest some towns just outside the OKC that are relatively safe and nice to rent in. Also, How is the job market for an experienced salesperson?
Thank you,
D

You're looking at moving from Long Island to OkC and you quote Wizzard in your very first post on this forum?

Doceddie- My take is that wizzard is stuck in the early eighties. His/Her knowledge of OKC is obviously poor because he/she posted information that is completely incorrect. Along with his/her impression of OKC, He/She thinks that the city stole money via taxes and didnt create any of the projects that the city promised to provide to the public (string of pearls??-what a joke). If you need any links to respected sites that can tell you the truth then I can give them to you. Wizzard might be able to give some great inside info about towns outside of OKC. I would just request him/her to write clearly so you can fully understand his/her message. Feel free to also look into other threads on this forum and the Oklahoma forum. Lots of info...it just takes a lil time to look it over. But you should find many answers to your questions. Good luck

Dude, If you are so much more knowledgable than he, please share your opinions on OKC, it seems the cost of living rent and income is favorable, generally.
If you guys have a bone to pic with each other, no sweat, just looking to glean some valuable info from people that know. How are the women in OKC?
