Default info. about state jobs please

We are considering relocating to your area and I was looking on the state's website concerning health insuance fo state employees. It looked really expensive and mandatory. I just graduated with a Bachelor in Social work and I will only be making $2300.00/month. Some of the insurance premium choices was $1100.00/month (this covers the whole family but still....) Does anyone work for the state and can shed some light on the situation for me? Is there a very big demand for BSW?
Thanks

I work with the state and with the budget situation, some agencies are going to be harder to get into some some have implemented hiring freezes. Dept of Human services have a few openings.

As far as the health benefits, the state will give you a separate stipend to pay for your package, or at least part of it.

As far as the demand for BSW, you would have better results with a MSW, but a BSW is doable.
