I think I will visit the memorial if time allows.
It is right beside the interstate. You can see it as you drive by.

Even if you don't have time to go through the museum, at least take the time to go the memorial. When you're there, be sure to go around the to the side that is located on Harvey. I guess it would be considered the back side of the memorial. There is a chain link fence that was put up right after the bombing. It was suppose to eventually come down, but they just left it, because people from all over the world come and put mementos on it. A few times a year they take everything down because it gets so full. It interesting to look at all the things people leave.

It would be interesting to travel through Native American lands on this trip since we don't have many here in Maryland. This trip will also take me through the Navajo territories in Arizona and New Mexico.

I do like old buildings (as long as they're not brick rowhouses....I personally find them boring and depressing yet they're common in some of Baltimore's neighborhoods) so Eufaula should be good. I especially like old Victorian homes and Southern antebellum buildings as well as the Spanish-influenced architecture further west and in Texas.

In Checotah the best food is Chaney's Pizza. It is located at Second and Gentry. It is carry out but the best pizza place around. Tell Mary I said HI!!! We been missing them since we moved from Checotah. The one thing I left my renter's was a menu from Chaney's.
Muscogee Creek nation administers Checotah and they have a small smoke shop/casino/community center north of town on Broadway. About a mile from the stop light.
There are a couple of signs that say "Home of Carrie Underwood" but that is about it unless they have done something in the year since I moved.

Make sure you take a drive around the Eufaula Cove and see the Marina. It is really nice. They have a floating restaurant that is pretty good. I grew up in Eufaula and lived in Checotah the last 12 years before I moved a year ago. I miss it SOOO MUCH!!!! We are getting ready for our 25th Eufaula High Class Reunion. I can't believe it has been that long.

There's a diner in downtown Eufaula that is good. I wish I could remember the name of it. Someone else might know.

I would certainly recommend spending time at the memorial and museum in OKC....it's a very moving experience.

If you visit the Cadillac Ranch west of Amarillo, be sure and take your spray paint with you....you are encouraged to leave your mark. Also, just east of Amarillo (at Conway) you'll see the Bug Ranch (VW bugs set in the ground just like the Cadillacs are). The Devil's Rope Museum (Barbed Wire Historical Museum) is interesting....it's in McLean - there's also a good restaurant on the highway in McLean....the Red River Steakhouse.....better than anything you'll find in Amarillo IMO. Red River Steakhouse - Hand cut choice Black Angus SteaksWorld famous Fried CatfishHand battered Chicken Fried SteaksÂ*Catering done Right with our 120% GuaranteeÂ* Â*.

Reba was actually born in McAlester not Ardmore and lived on a ranch near Stringtown. None of them are on Rt 66.

It called JM's. They are famous for their chicken fried steaks and home made pies. I ate there last month.

Is see your a Country fan. Hey, Okies, is that enough to let him through?

Old Route 66 starts in Santa Monica, Ca. on "Pacific Coast Highway" aka "Highway 101" (where the Country group "Highway 101 got their name) Original name "Route 66". Runs through San Bernardino,Ca.(where I use to live) and through the San Gabriel Mnts.
Through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas Pan Handle to Oklahoma City and ends in Chicago, Illinois.

This link gives detailed directions and details everything that was there and everything that still is.

Example, Rt.66 went through San Bernardino, Ca, passing "the first" McDonalds restraunt. The original building still stands and is still in operation today.

If you like good Southern BBQ you should also checkout Wild Horse Mountain Barbecue in the Eufaula area....just west of Spiro, OK if I remember correctly. Good stuff.

But on your trip don't forget Okemah. It is just off I-40 and is the home of Woody Guthrie. And Yukon....where they brag about being the home of Garth Brooks. And don't forget Erick, the home of Roger Miller.

The memorial is exceptionally moving.
You can't miss the sign advertising Roger Miller's hometown either. It's a good size billboard just a couple miles from Erick as you're on I-40, which looks like the original album cover of Roger's Words and Music album, released on the Smash record label in 1966.

Yukon is a good place to stop for eats. Found a great mom and pop restaurant there, down the street was a Hastings cd/video store, got some great road tunes from that place.
