Jessaka: You have the knack for this stuff and your rep is soaring! You were blessed with really good weather for good lighting. But you have also captured some very interesting camera angles. As I say, you have the eye for this sort of thing so keep it up. That brickwork looks so warm and inviting in the sun. Is it oil and gas money that helps Gutherie out? Few towns could have done it up like this. I don't think it will get as expensive as Oregon, but property values are definitely on the rise. I will stick to the Green Country further east. I am keeping my eye on Talequah. I am bound for Disney (South Grand Lake) for a 3 week stay starting July 19th. I will be buzzing down to Talequah. I think that stretch between Spavinaw-Eucha down the Illinois River to Talequah is going to see alot more growth. I would bet that will be a major retirement area. Hudson Lake is a river authority lake, too, and people can own down to the lakeshore--put in docks, et. al. And the river, as you know, is beautiful. Ten Killer is also a knock out. |

Yeah, I graduated from Guthrie High. And I have great memories, the old underground coffee house used to be underground and many people from my hs went there literally everyday and sipped coffee, hung out,and if you stayed there for a couple hours, eventually you would see pretty much everyone in town, that coffee house has moved, but I can't make myself go there now, it's just not the same place and I truthfully don't like coffee, I always drank hot choc. lol. But I got much hw done there and I could see raising kids there myself, in the future of course.

I would give up the green country for Guthrie if it were not in tornado alley and if the VA were in a smaller town nearby. Of course my favorite type of town has a court house in the middle with nice shopping all around. Tahlequah has the nice court house but not the nice historic buildings around it. i remember when I was 16 years I went to West Plains, MO with my grandma, and I was taken to a town like that, not that it couldn't have been West Plains, but it had a park in the middle with stores all around it. It could have been nothing since it was really too long ago to remember. My home town had the same. But nothing beats those historic buildings in Guthrie. Nothing in CA comes even close to it. Some will say San Francisco, but that city is too big. It was fun though when I was younger. And better still that you can take the bus and Bart to get around and not have to drive.
Come September my sister and niece want to go visit Vinita and then we will go over to Grove, unless my husband and I are on vacation, which I doubt. Also plan a trip to Tulsa soon to buy a camera. Will have to see what Synopsis mentioned. But going to Philbrook at end of July with a group anyway, so I will just want to see Cherry Street and some other areas. |

Jessaka: If it is not too hot when I visit later in July I will have to buzz down to Guthrie and experience that historical ambiance. Chances are I will pretty much laze around the lake and sip Maragaritas at the various watering holes or sit on my deck or swim platform. But I will check out Talequah for sure. God Bless.

I'm just saying hello from Ohio & wanted to say this morning I was watching a little of Good Morning America on ABC & saw someone in the background (outside the studio) holding a big yellow sign that read something like "Guthrie Oklahoma celebrating 100 yrs!" Hey, if it weren't for this forum & all of the good info that gets exchanged here I would have been clueless!
![]() Jessaka, that was a great post regarding your trip to Guthrie - the photos were wonderful! Betsy |

Hi Betsy,
Thanks. I drove over to Muskogee today looking for a certain dog food but not finding it. Then I had to drive into Ft. Gibson to see what it looked like. What a cute small town with 2 or 3 full blocks of historic district. Not much shopping but a sweat town. I noticed my brochure on antique stores said that they have 3, and I saw one that was closed of course, it is Monday. I will have to go back and take photos. |

Guthrie is so beautiful. What a gem for OKC to have. It has always been a bed and breakfast get away for OKCitians. It hit hard times during the late eighties. I havent been for over a decade. I will definitely make a short hike up. It still looks great.

We also have some nice parks, here is one taken at Highland park. It is kind of off the beaten path and is not known about by many out of towners. The entrance is located at the intersection of Warner and Drexel streets.
