I have deleted the posters comments that created all this ruckus, deeming it as being insulting. In all my life I have never heard anyone say that Oklahomans are rude! Maybe they aren't as sticky-fake-sweet like some other places in the south are, IMO. And who is this person to judge an entire state's intelligence? Stupid and smart people exist in all states.

Okay, new rule for all okies. Please do not stare at folks from down south! Why, it's just downright ruder than a *)_#@ nice #E)!#&! friendly )@+#& intelligent New Yorker.
Actually, this state is pretty diverse. I steer clear of OKC because it reminds of wanna-be gang banger Los Angeles. I used to visit OK County Jail facility once a week and going thru downtown OKC's dumpier side really brought back memories of homeless people in L.A.
But rural Oklahoma is a whole different world. I live in between OKC, Tulsa, & McAlester. And we think of those places as big city! Even Shawnee's congestion is repulsive.
Oh, and a message for all the church goin okies. Ya'll can quit prayin for rain now...

It was a hot morning. In the parking lot of my workplace moments before 8.30am, for whatever crazed reason I hurriedly decided to pop up the hood of my car to collect a bunch of old half crisp half damp leaves from the grill along my windshield due to the windows recently spot-fogging along the bottom from the outside.
An older lady who clearly could have continued on her way to start her shift on time and could have chosen to avoid dealing with grimey cars, a total stranger and the sweltering heat, stopped along her way toward the building to ask if I needed help. Bless her heart!
The other day shopping at WalMart, hubby and I were in the world's slowest line. All of a sudden, the sweet older couple standing behind us struck up a conversation with us. We all ended up talking about our dogs.
I suppose these things can happen anywhere, but for some reason it seems more frequent here.

I have lived in Oklahoma for 24 years and found Oklahoma Residents to be much friendly 24 years ago versus now. 24 years ago, everyone you passed on the road would waive at you - not so much now.

tulsagall,
it happens more here than anywhere i have ever been, and actually it never happened anywhere else i had ever been.
and perhaps some towns are just friendlier than others for whatever reason, but perhaps when a person went outside a certain day the friendly people were home or they only ran into those not friendly.
when we were house hunting we pulled off the side of the road to read a map and a young man in a pickup stopped to ask us if we needed help, a little later the sheriff came by in a different area and asked us if we needed help. saw our CA driver's license. then another man on a tractor stopped to give us directions and then talked to us for a long time. you can't get lost in Oklahoma. someone will help you find your way. But even so they were never as friendly as those in Oklahoma.
people at stores always talk to me, even clerks. people stop to talk with me when i walk my dog. and it goes on and on.
Deacon, did you move away from the area to a city or is it happening in the same town where you were 24 years ago? i don't think of waving as something that makes a person friendly or not. they used to do that in my home town of Paso Robles, and some still do in the country if they know your car or truck.

OK, I think I am pretty qualified to respond to this because I lived in Oklahoma City in the mid-80's, and found it to be very friendly. I returned for the first time this year (on business), and found that friendliness mostly gone. What in the heck has happened in OKC? I found most people that I came in contact with surly, and the drivers aggressive and rude. Perhaps I just ran into the wrong people, but I noticed a huge difference between OKC '85 and OKC '07. If I'm off-base with this, please correct me. But that was my impression.

Again, things have changed everywhere. We live in a much faster moving world and yes, I still find the people in OCK as well as other parts of OK to be friendlier than in many parts of the country. No and So Carolina the same, AR is friendly. There must be something about parts of the south, maybe the rural areas, I don't know but they want to be friendly, they are polite and they know how to slow down a little. Maybe we can all learn from them.'
