Very true. I had always wanted to see Tulsa because I'd seen some pics of it years ago. I had found a forum through a newspaper and I asked a ton of questions before we ever went there. Nearly everyone was so down to earth and helpful. There are forums through newspapers everywhere and I distinctly remember two of them that I had gone to so I could ask questions for previous trips. Those two were not friendly at all so needless to say, we didn't even go there. The internet is pretty anonymous so some people think there's no harm in being rude, but in actuality, it DOES matter.
When we were there, people were very polite and friendly and we felt like we fit right in, except of course for the fact that Tulsa is a huge city compared to what we're used to and the traffic moves pretty fast when you don't know where you're going.
And if you notice, there is very little bickering that goes on in the OK forum here.

Hi,
I have found it to be the friendliest State that I have been in, but I haven't been in them all.

Well, I'm biased being from there, but I would say this is very true. More so in the rural areas than the big cities but overall even people in the cities (OkC, Tulsa) are generally very friendly. There is a post over in this forum from Carvers Wife who says that she hasn't seen that friendliness thus far, but then again, she's only been living in OkC (or that area) less than a week (you guys should pop over and give her some encouragement). You will find a-holes everywhere, mind you; I just think you'll find less of them in Oklahoma.

This is how friendly we found OKC city last November. We were looking for the hotel/motel we had booked and the streets were pretty torn up with construction so it seemed all we did was go around in circles. Hubby decided to stop at a convenience store to ask for directions. Before he could even get to the door of the store some gentleman in his pick up, stuck his head out the window and asked Pat if he was lost. Of course Pat said yes and the guy gave us directions. Here in NM no one would have bothered to notice if someone appeared lost. This is just one of the things that started us on the road to re-location.

Nita, I was also impressed with the way some people there will go out of their way for you. I know I've mentioned it before, but as I was leaving a restaurant, a gent made an extra effort to open the door for me and then rushed to get to the outside door to hold it open for me. You don't find that in many places.

nmnita,
people have asked us if we are lost too. now that never happened in CA, and i don't care whether it was a small town or a city. they also go out of their way in stores for you. in caif. you had to beg for assistance, and then they would just point the way or say something like aisle B.

I am currently living near London in the UK after 12 years in OK. The people in this area (Surrey) and in London ,avoid contact with strangers. Most of them don't meet your eye or smile. I am told it is because of the crowding in this area. I look forward to returning to OK and the friendly people who speak to strangers, smile, open doors and go out of thier way to help.

I have lived in a few other places and traveled some. I think there is a certain kind of unpretentious genuineness about so many Oklahomans that I have not experienced elsewhere. But Oklahomans are human and certainly far from perfect.
