I think Tulsa is more like Orlando. Except for Disney and orange groves and the ocean they would be identical.

I agree. Good call, GP. Edmond is like Orange County, CA without the surfers, ocean, overpopulation, and $900K homes that were worth $160K 20 years ago. Otherwise, I think they are identical also.

Tulsa as a Midwestern city is a complete misnomer. Just go look in the other forums (General/Cityvs.City, for example) and see the discussions by true Midwesterners and you'll see that Oklahoma and Tulsa are not mentioned in any of the conversations.

Culturally speaking, Oklahoma is Western/Southwestern/Southern all rolled into one which I call HOME. Midwestern? Absolutely not. This thread belongs on a true Midwestern state's board (Kansas/Missouri/Nebraska and back East), not Okieville's. Perhaps the Mod can stick a fork in it? Pretty please...
The climate of Kansas isn't even like the Midwest as it is much more alligned with Oklahoma. Even in KC they don't know how to drive on one inch of snow most of the time!

Exactly. That is why they have little in common with the Midwest in terms of climate.

i think the Tulsa area has more of a Midwestern flair to it compared to the rest of the state.

Not just a flair of Midwest, but just look at the street names in Tulsa. The oil barons that poured huge sums of money into the city were from the Northeast.

Let's get this straight Oklahoma is in know ways in common with the Midwest. Not weather, not culture, not food not nothing I'm from Michigan so I should know. It is south western. One way to differentiatenorth from south is red dirt and houses with no basements.

Spot on, GunRule. Us Okies that have been born and raised here for generations on end know your sentiment to be true.

There are just a few elitist Okies (<---an oxymoron if there ever was one!) and a few uninformed transplants on here that don't like Oklahoma's association with the South-Southwest/twang dialect/Rednecks/rural life-Indian-Cowboy culture/country music/blahblahblah, etc. The good thing is that they're in the extreme minority and always will be.

Great to hear from a true Midwesterner. Hopefully you can set a few of the wannabe Midwesterners straight.

One commonality between Michigan and Oklahoma is that both states have quite a number of brick houses, though. That did surprise me.
