Does the Holy City have anything special for Easter?
Not anymore on Easter Morning, RB. When Bjb123 and went to visit it on our last trek to Oklahoma, we stopped there because I wanted to show her the place. I asked them if they still performed on Easter Morning for the Sunrise Service and they said "NO", they now hold it the Morning before. They were having to many problems with drunks showing up and cause trouble on Easter Morning.

How silly. Aren't the drunks simply going to show up for the new time. I would think most drunks would rather be sleeping at home after indulging the previous night.

It was just an excuse for many to stay out all night and drink. They'd do it at the pageant or somewhere else.

The real reason for the change was because there were some church pastors that asked for the change to allow their members to have Sunday morning to attend Easter services at church.
So the pagent officals changed when they did the play. Now it is a Sunset Service on the Saturday before. I do think they do the service the weekend before also but that is more of a dress rehersal.

Jobs are not easy to come by in a smaller military town like Lawton and I will tell you that unless your boyfriend is a Sergeant or higher, his chances of being allowed to live off Post are small. You didn't mention it so I can only give you the heads up on that. As for how far away can they live? Usually if there is a recall of some sort there is a 2 hour limit to get to Post. With that information I would suggest not living more than 30-45 min away so there is reaction time. There are a few hotels in Lawton but I wouldn't know if they need a manager. Whatever you decide, good luck!

Not sure if you are from Lawton or have been to Lawto recently or not but Lawton is not a small military town anymore.

Most Soldiers, no matter what their rank is, are allowed to live off post as long as they get their unit commanders approval. If anything, He may be required to have a room in the barracks.

Lawton has recently had a boom of hotels being built. There are 2 being built now and plans are in the works for a new hotel/ convention center to be begin construction within the next year.

Hotels that are here:
Motel 6
Holiday Inn Express
Hampton Inn & Suites
Americas Best Value (use to be a Ramada Inn)
Baymont Inn
Quality Inn
Springhill Suites
Best Western
La Quinta Inn & Suites
Comfort Suites
Fairfield Inn & Suites
Sleep Inn & Suites
Super 8 Motel
Red Lion (use to be the Holiday Inn)
Candlewood Suites (under Construction)

Plans are in the works for the Ft. Sill Apache Casino to build a hotel next to their Casino, but not shure when that will happen.
Hope that helps

Bubba...

Actually I am a Warrant Officer stationed at Ft Sill and yes, Lawton is a small military town when you compare it to Seattle (Ft Lewis) and El Paso (Ft Bliss) just to name two.

I should have been a little more clear - SINGLE soldiers that are E-4 and below are required to maintain a room in the barracks on Ft Sill unless their Commander approves them to live off post. The approval for a single E-4 and below to live off post is rare from what I have seen in our unit so I can only speak to that but I believe it is Post Policy. If they do not have approval they can still do it but will not receive their housing allowance for it and that is the key take away - it will come out of their pocket if they live off post without approval. I didn't specify in my last post and it wasn't very clear but "small military town" is 100% accurate unless you want to count some of the small Kaserne's in Germany.

As far as the hotel info - you got me on that one. Good update.
