Am praying for you in Miami? What about Coffeville oil spill?
Wow! I am so sorry for you. It can only get better as water goes down but it is still a mess. I don't think Grove should have any problems. My place on South Grand is on a hill--thank goodness--but that water must be muddy with possibly some logs and branches making there way down lake. I hope it clears some by the time I get there.
Now that oil spill deal from the refinery in Coffeeville. What river is that going down? I think it must be headed for the big lake over by Bartlesville? Anyone know more about that?

Saw this on the news. What a flashback, flooding and an oil spill! Having been there and doing that, all we, in LA, can say is how sorry we are that this is happening to ya'll. They will come in and clean the oil spill, dig up your yards, do some kind of chemical treatment/pressure wash in your house, once it is gutted, and settle with you. You are going to have the EPA, FEMA, SBA, and a million other alphabet agencies coming your way; we are praying for God to give you the strength to deal with the red tape. Bless your hearts, the flooding and oil spill is only the begining. Best wishes and prayers.

keep us updated please
Like everyone my heart goes out to all of you effected by the floods and oil spill. Let us hope the worst is over, the rains subside (which I think they have, haven't they) and the clean up doesn't take too long. Hopefully the damage is not as serious as we have heard.
Our prayers are with you.

I live on Monkey Island and the water is up to the footings on my deck and will be in the house in another 3 feet of rise. The lake at this point is filled with debris, large trees, trash and such washed from the Neosho. This is the highest we have seen the lske since 1951 according to some folks. It is not a good idea to go boating, fishing or anything. Too dangerous. Crest is expected Friday

Well, I have been waiting all Summer for my 3 weeks at the place on Grand Lake! I am not out there until the 17th but I think it will take some time to get back to normal. I have a good seawall and am up on a hill, although very close to the lake down where Ghost Hollow meets the main lake. My property manager has not called me with any emergency calls, so my renters must be ok.
I can't imagine the GRA letting places on Monkey Island actually flood unless it was a very extreme emergency to keep the people downstream safe. Keep us informed on developments. Trust there is no flooding in Grove, proper? Man, I hope someone does not cancel their condo contract at The Peninsula over this. It is a very rare occurence to have that much water.
I was hoping to sit on my swim platform and watch ginger-ale colored water. Maybe I will have to settle for muddy water and look out for trees, branches, and floating refrigerators. It will take GRA sometime to clean out all that debris. Might put a damper on jet skis and some recreational boating. But, hey, the fishermen must be in hog heaven once it is safe to venture out. Thanks again for update. I take it no oil is going in there. That must be further west.

god bless
Grandlaker,
Every day I look at the weather and keep hoping the rain has stopped in the midwest and northern part of the south. My heart goes out to all of you.
What about Grove itself, has it had any serious damage?
Kurt,
I am sure you will still be able to enjoy your vacation, just maybe in a little different way. I would hope no one would let something like this stop them from wanting to buy one of the condos. Most anyone with a brain knows these acts of mother nature are rare.

Again, I'd like to say how sorry I am for some of the people in northeastern OK. I hadn't seen anything recently on the weather channel, but this morning they had a collage of pics and in the collage was Miami. Not sure if they had the pics mixed up or what, but they showed a house that just had the peak sticking out of the water. I had no idea it was quite that bad.

I was sitting at my computer here in Washington state, halfway listening to the Today Show on Wednesday, when I heard them mention Oklahoma. I looked at the TV and saw the top inch of an eight-foot-tall street sign sticking out of the water - Steve Owens Blvd, the main road into Miami from the interstate. The Weather Channel had a reporter in Miami for at least two days. That house you spoke of certainly was in Miami. First time I've ever seen my little ole hometown on national TV. I thought it cool that they made sure people knew the correct pronunciation - My-am-uh. Also that Mickey Mantle's boyhood home a few miles away in Commerce was not flooded.
It's the second-worst flood in Miami history. I was there for the worst one, in 1951. I was only six but have vivid memories of it.

OH, I'm sorry to know that you had to see your hometown on tv under these circumstances. It had to be awful to see that happen. We weren't in Miami, but we saw signs to get there both going to Tulsa and when we left Grove.
Well, I guess a flood every 56 years isn't too bad.

FYI -- this is 20 floods in 21 years but THE WORST one since 1951. Many homes have been lost. The streets are beginning to open, and the river is expected to be back below flood stage by noon Sunday. The work is only beginning. This time areas that were never supposed to flood did flood. To the best of my knowledge, Grove is fine; and so is Joplin. We just came from Joplin, and there's no flooding there. Of course, the Neosho River is a long way from Joplin. I'm sure that Grand Lake is full of debris.
And to the person who stated that Miami is now just an ugly small town -- I couldn't agree more. I do NOT understand the purpose of removing what made the town unique and attractive. All I can figure is that it's less maintenance this way. It is certainly less appealing to the eye!!!
Prayers go out for those here and in Coffeyville who have lost so much.
