If you want to have some fun on Saturday, come out to Wewoka for the Sorghum Festival. Chesapeake Energy is a sponsor of the festival, so you know it has to be good.

There will be a 5K run at 8am, a parade at 10 am. There will be all kinds of music, and food and craft vendors. I usually buy so much stuff I have trouble carrying it around. The Seminole Nation Museum has a demonstration of sorghum making, including a mule driven mill. You can watch the syrup cooking and then you can buy some fresh sorghum molasses. There will be Native American displays, usually demonstrating skills such as flint knapping, and you can tour the museum. There will be a reenactment of a gunfight, a car and tractor show, a quilt expo, art and photography.

This is always a really good festival that has a big crowd. The weather looks good so far so maybe you can enjoy a day in Wewoka.

Good suggestion; the weather for the next several days is supposed to be spectacular. Heck, I may even go up there for the weekend!

Turner Falls is awesome, but if you don't want to pay that high admission, go to Sulphur Springs in Sulphur. The water is icy cold but it is very neat. We usually take a picnic lunch.

Ouachita Mountains Scenic Drives - Scenic Byways

This is the time of year when the leaves will soon be turning. A friend here in Tahlequah said that the first week in November is our peak week for colors. Well, we will see. Trees have just started to turn here in Tahlequah, and we have it planned to go on a drive thorough the Ouachita Mountains south of here. We also want to stop in Kreb at that famous Italian restaurant and buy some sausage, and then check out McAlester. I will be taking my camera. Of course not the one like Robyn's or even Peggy's, just a cheap camera. Waah! Will post photos when we get back.

If you haven't been around Gerty in a while, you might see a lot of changes. I would be interested in what you think next time you are around. Hope you strike it rich soon, though!

I'm having a medical procedure performed today, and in about an hour I will take some happy pills before we head in to the doctor's office so I'll probably be worthless the rest of the day. But, that's a good suggestion; I may use this weekend to drive up to Gerty and check it out. The weather is supposed to be spectacular. I only hope that those drugs they are giving me (darvacet and ativan) don't give me some kind of drug hangover the next day. That's a potent mix!

jessaka, I really look forward to seeing those pics. The Ouachita mountains are spectacular in the Fall.

My 'inner clown' wants to say "Have a Nice Trip!" Seriously, feel better soon and drink LOTS of water when you get home, it helps to flush the meds and the 'dry-mouth' you may get later. (My dentist uses a similar combo for phobics like me. )

Looks like we'll have to take a drive if we want to see any "Fall"... Duncan seems to have been passed by for Fall Colors this year. My Crepe Myrtle that is normally a blaze of red and orange by now is losing all of it's leaves, and they're still green...

Ya, I'll drink alot of water this afternoon. That's sad to hear about the Fall colors. I wonder why that is? Didn't Duncan get a lot of rain this year? Our colors don't change down here until late November - sometimes even early December. That 200-300 miles makes a big difference in weather patterns.

Much of Oklahoma had plenty of rain in August and before. But September and October have been relatively dry. We were supposed to have the best fall colors in years but I'm sure the last two months have rained on that parade.
