I thought it would be nice to have a thread on day trips, so people that have moved to Oklahoma can get an idea of what there is to see and do. Hopefully, a lot of people who live here can add to this list.
I told a trip with my new friend to Chocteau off 412 east of Tulsa, North of Tahlequah yesterday. We went to the Amish Cheese House on Highway 69 South. This was a delight for me. My friend said that on Sundays you can see the older Amish members going to church in their horse drawn buggies. The Cheese House was just wonderful. Not only did they have cheese, but they had all of their canned goods to buy. Canned jams, jellies, fruit, vegetables, relish, and other pickled items. Then they had other foods such as sugar free products, candy, meat trays, dried noodles and other pastas, gift boxes, and kitchen accessories, etc. as well as a deli. They also sold fudge, and you could sample and buy many varieties. We shopped and had a sandwich, and then walked next door to their bakery. You can go to their website at Amish Cheese House A few quilts were there to buy as well as aprons and pot holders. When we were leaving an Amish woman was brining in yet another stack of beautiful aprons. Then we went up the street to an Amish Furniture store. The furniture was Craftsman as well as Shaker and other styles. You had to order it, and it was expensive. And being that we have had a lot of rain, Grand Lake was overflowing, and so that is why on my last trip, the one to Guthrie, it looked like we had swamp lands with water up to the leaf line of the trees. |

I love day trips in Oklahoma. There are so many good places that are perfect for a short outing. I like that TV show that Integris sponsors on KWTV about travel. There's a web site: TravelOK.com:* Official Oklahoma Tourism Info. Site
I want to do a tour of Oklahoma wineries and I would really like to visit the new (to me) Oklahoma Historical museum. |

Well, I don't live there, but if I did~a good day trip would be the Tahlimena Drive. It's supposed to be beautiful and we were right in the area and it's very nice. Unfortunately, I got a bit car sick in Poteau so we didn't take the drive. And of course, you know I'd recommend a day at Grand Lake.

Good day trips would be:
Turner Falls and Arbuckle Wilderness near Davis, OK. Turner Falls is beautiful, in the hills with trees and clear running water. Both charge admission. Medicine Park and the Wichita Mountains around Lawton. Medicine Park is very quaint. They whole place is made out of cobblestones. Little shops and a pretty good restaurant. Drive to the top of Mount Scott. No admission. It's a little hot to go there now, but the drive is pretty in a Southwest way. Go on a float trip down the Illinois River (not now, too high water!) You can rent canoes and they take you up the river and you float back down. Not that expensive. |

Oh, I've got another one!
Tulsa for a day. Just to visit the museums and the park or see the zoo or just admire the buildings. Jenks, too. The aquarium there is pretty cool.![]()

Good thread keep them coming.
Just moved to Oklahoma a little over a year ago (Indianapolis prior). Having just gotten life back in order enough to take the wife and 3 sons out to see some of the state this is a great type of thread. We have done Witchita Mountains missed Medicine Park though maybe next time. Is Turner Falls worth the admission? Seem to be mixed reviews and it is a little on the pricey side. Coworker suggested Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur how is this? Also anymore ideas on 2-3 hours from Yukon area? |
