By Woodie Guthrie. A real oldie, but a real goodie..

Many a month has come and gone
Since I've wandered from my home
In those Oklahoma hills
Where I was born

Many a page of my life has turned
Many lessons I have learned
And I feel like in those hills
Where I belong

Way down yonder in the Indian nation
Ridin' my pony on the reservation
In the Oklahoma hills where I was born

Way down yonder in the Indian nation
A cowboy's life is my occupation
In the Oklahoma Hills where I was born

But as I sit here today
Many mile's I am away
From the place I rode my pony
Through the draw

Where the oak and black-jack trees
Kiss the playful prairie breeze
And I feel back in those hills
Where I belong

Now as I turn life a page
To the land of the great Osage
In those Oklahoma hills
Where I was born

Where the black oil rolls and flows
And the snow white cotton grows
And I feel like in those hills
Where I belong

Thanks, Synopsis! I never knew all the words to that song, but it must've been popular a LONG time ago. My Mother sang that song when I was a little girl.

You are an Okie when you know what noodling is and you still do it with a 12 pack of beer and a couple of buddies.

What is "noodling" and why do you need a 12 pack of beer and a couple of buddies?

Noodlin (or noodling) is the fishing technique of getting into a creek or lake or pond and feeling along the bank until you find a hole. Then you stick your hand and arm back into the hole in hopes of finding a large fish. If you're lucky the large fish will bite down on your hand or fingers or arm (depending upon size) and then you pull him out.

There are many, many links to sites describing it including an actual documentary - maybe this is the one that was on PBS.

Snopes has a good article. I suppose people can't believe it is real.

Another interesting page by a writer who refers to a NYTimes article.

Of course
YouTube

I would have posted an image but the ones I found were all copyrighted but click the links.

No wonder you need beer. It would take a lot of nerve for me to stick my hand in a hole in the river when I didn't know what was in it. I can see why it is outlawed in some States.

Ya, there are still a lot of people who noodle on the S. Canadian river back in Hughes County. I knew people that had huge scars all the way up past their wrists where they almost got more than they bargained for with some really big fish. I would need a serious amount of beer before I would even attempt such a thing.

Thanks for teaching me something new today. I also had NO idea what "noodling" was.
