Does anyone know of good apartments to rent in the Tahlequah area? Something suitable for middle-agers without kids, quiet and clean.

I know that there are apartments here in Tahlequah, but I don't know what they are like or how to contact them. They seem to be out at the edge of town on Allen Street. There seemed to be two or three new complexes.

Where would you rather live, in Tahlequah or Wagoner? I would like to live in an area that has trees, culture, good grocery store and nice people. Do people ride bicycles a lot where you live?

I would much rather live in Tahlequah, and I do. It has trees, a college, parks, a great grocery store and very nice people. Wagoner has nice people too, but I haven't seen enough of it to tell you much more than that. Tahlequah has more trees and is hilly. I guess some people ride bikes here, but I have not paid much attention to it. I do know that I don't have to look out for bike riders like I did when living in Berkeley, CA. Culture, that depends on what you mean. We have college plays and a group that also puts on good plays. We have some great restaurants here that I am only now learning about because I didn't go out as much and so I was constantly complaining that we didn't have nice restaurants. Stupid me, because I have found them. Our historic district has a lot of those nice restaurants, downtown Wagoner doesn't seem to have but one on their main street, and it looks like a cafe and wasn't open when I was there during a week day.
When I first came here I began shopping at Reason's grocery store, and it was really nice because they had organic as well as imported items. It helped me to not miss Trader Joe's in CA or other stores that I frequented. And we have a health food store here. So it depends on what you mean by culture. I rather like Hollywood Video myself. Ha. But we do have a new movie house. |

I just wrote a volume about the Green Country region, but for Catolaccus, I'll respond personally as well. Personally, I'd choose Tahlequah over Wagoner hands down because I like a city that isn't very dependent on other cities or a major highway. I also prefer the hilly terrain. Wagoner is foothills and fairly flat. If you must go to Tulsa often though, Wagoner might be the better choice and is near enough all the lakes and hills to probably be a desirable place to live.

I lived in OK for nearly 60 years and loved Tahlequah, my favorite place in OK (though most of the time I lived in the Okla. City area. We live in New Haven, CT now and plan an extended vacation in Tahlequah area. There is a spirit in that area not easily seen in most similar sized towns. It has the Illinois River, the best river in OK, which runs into Lake Tenkiller nearby, one of the best lakes. Outdoor activities are great.
I can't make a direct comparison to Wagoner, but at first blush it would be hard to beat Tahlequah. |

Beautiful! I can't wait until we have the time and money to visit all these wonderful places that have been posted on the forum. Just last night I was driving Anna to OKC to spend the night with a friend, and as we passed a field of wild flowers she remarked about how pretty it is here. I remember her tears when we came in January to buy a house because it was "all brown, and ugly."

I'm partial to Wagoner...but I grew up here. this thing says not to advertise, but if there is some way you can contact me I have an apt to rent in Wagoner. I've made some other posts about Wagoner today. I would DEFINATELY want to live in Wagoner. The lake is beautiful, the people are nice, we have over 50 sites on the National Register of Historic Places. It's just a real nice place to live. |
