Wow LadyRobyn! Loved the pics of those water fowls. Reminded me of Wisconsin where I went to college and met my now husband. The seagulls reminded me Corpus Christie and those prairie dogs of North/South Dakota. Gotta give it to the Army for being a traveler. How far is Duncan from the Post? Can you tell me about Elgin? My husband is drawn to the water? So far it sounded like the school is pretty decent. peggydavis really helped me out about the programs available at the 3 high schools but I heard MacArthur is the most decent one but not quiete up there compared to where I am coming from. Moving is simultaneously exciting and nerve wrecking specially with kids. You can send me more pics of the post. I must humble myself that I am not so adept about sending and receiving pics through this kind of communication. I will check my mailbox for dm's later. Thanks!

I was hoping to see a note from Harry. Just got back from Wisconsin after celebrating my mom-in-law's 80th b-day. Almost froze out there. Flights were cancelled coming and going out of Chicago yesterday. Got back today. I don't think Lawton airport will have this kind of problem, would it?I now prefer the warm Southern winter. Anyway, can't wait to check out the area in less than two weeks to see what's out there in Lawton. Any suggestion where to eat good authentic Oklahoma cuisine?

I wish we would hear from Harry T also. It worries me when posters just drop off the face of the earth. He was in Germany counting down the days before he would arrive in OK, then suddenly nothing! We are left to wonder if he got killed in a car wreck or something.

I was thinking you may want to check out Duncan as a place to live. It is not a bad commute and the schools and community are very nice.

We don't have the snow and ice like Chicago thank goodness. We have a few days each winter and that is about it.

For OK cuisine, steak either regular or chicken fried. If you like hamburgers go to Meers OK, which will include some sight seeing. Maybe LadyRobyn, Mkfarnam, or Bobby H can recommend some places to eat.

Hey everyone!! Getting ready to move back to Lawton. We haven't been stationed at Fort Sill for about 3 years. I keep hearing that Lawton has really changed. Can anyone update me on whats going on out there?

Thansk peggydavis. My hubby and I compared the housing prices between Elgin and Duncan. It looked like Duncan is expensive compared to Elgin. I will for sure be gathering a lot of info and sort out from there. I am very curious and excited. Moving is an adventure and I hope it will be a fun one again this time. I will post whatever info I gathered to share them to you Armybrt1092. Good luck to both of us!

I am reading past messages and noticed that last year shelbylane posted a note that Walmart was coming to Elgin and Wichita Online was going to supply broadband service to the area as well. Can someone tell me if these were realized? I also noticed that Cache's newly constructed homes are bit pricey compared to Elgin's? Any personal unbiased opinions? With the economy not looking too promising, I want to make sure that I am getting what I am paying. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi guys ! I haven't been around for awhile.I just saw this thread and thought i might could help out...Wichita Online is already supplying broadband to the area and i haven't heard about any new developments with the Wal-mart in Elgin...where's HarryT ?

Lawton has gotten an Olive Garden, a few other eateries and they are set to do some demolishion around town.I think a new mall would be great, the mall now is sort of blah....i also wish they could build an arena for concerts, sports events..etc. that'd be great for the people and their families of Lawton.

Lots of houses still being built in Elgin, Lawton, Marlow, Duncan,..people moving into towns like Fletcher, Sterling, Rush Springs..lots of movement in this area !..lol.

If anyone needs to know anything about these towns just ask i live around here..

Thanks Shelbylane! I am mostly worried about the school for my children. I wish/hope that there is string orchestra for elementary and middle school. I knew that Lawton HS is the only one that offers string orchestra. Why not the rest of the schools? Do schools there have TAG program? Or do they have at least cluster class (fast/advanced learner clustered together)? We have been looking at Elgin area and noticed that there are new homes being built- are they very close to the lake? Any information you could give me about the schools, neighborhood and safety issues are greatly appreciated. We plan to be there next weekend. God willing. Thanks in advance for your help.
