Question Questions on Oklahoma

Hm...doing some research into possibly moving to Oklahoma...a few questions.

1) What is the weather like in the off seasons? Also....are tornados a big danger in the state?

2) Where would you all recommend the best place to live for housing under $150k, with some good shopping areas and movie theaters? (doesn't have to be a big city, maybe just a built up mid or small sized city...just no farming towns please!)

3) Crime rate pretty low and lots of job opportunities for accounts payable type people?

4) oh and are there any racial or diversity problems?

Search the word "tornado" on Search this Forum. You'll find lots of info about our little storms.

1) Really hot in the summer. Can be cold in the winter. Very sunny usually. Spring and fall are the best.
2) Oklahoma City and close in towns, or Tulsa and close in towns.
3) Close in towns to OKC and Tulsa. I don't know the demand for accounts payable, but OKC and Tulsa are where most jobs would be.

As far as racial diversity, I don't see too many of those problems and I am married to someone that is not Caucasian. Although I don't live there anymore, we travel there quite often (OkC and Tulsa).

If you want good shopping areas you would need to be close to either Tulsa or Oklahoma City.

Yes, we get a lot of tornadoes, but some places don't get as much as others.

I have not seen racial problems here.

It seems to me that once you are out of the cities it is all farm and cattle land with small towns that have little shopping. Guthrie would fit your bill but it is in the middle of tornado alley or it runs through there. most of Oklahoma does. just find a house with a storm shelter.

Why are you looking to move here? That would help to know more of what you are looking for.

The question you have to ask yourself is

"What do I really want out of a town, regardless of where it is?"

There are 2 major cities in Oklahoma; Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Both have all the services you may have grown to expect from a major metro area. However, in many Oklahoma small towns, services are limited even though they have all the basic necessities one needs on a daily basis.

Tornados? Yes, they occur out here. They are all part of living in this area.

Real Estate of $150K or less? Yes, there are plenty of properties within that range.

Take a vacation or a trip to Oklahoma, drive around, and see what is available here. Read the local newspapers, talk with the people, and ask the police department about the crime rate. Crime is in every state and Oklahoma is no exception.

Deciding whether to move to Oklahoma or not, is a decision you can not make in a single trip or one day. Take your time, look around, weight all the facts, then and only then, can you determine, based on what is best for you, whether Oklahoma is right for you or not.

Good luck!
