Actually, there was a house in Hulbert that looked like a cabin, not log, with a fireplace and I loved it so much. It looked like those you see on covers of books that are really old and run down. I fell in love with it, and I took photos of it when we came here, and my husband just hated it, said it was junk and needed too much work. I think I would have preferred it still, but then we didn't get to look inside because he said that the outside was run down too much. You know it was one of those Ma & Pa Kettle homes, complete with donkeys and horses and a friendly dogs outside. If only the people had been home.
Sort of like this?

This photo and the one above is the farmhouse I wanted. I have no idea why, outside of the fact that it is rustic.
I also loved the fireplace and the green paint. My husband said it does have a tin roof. I didn't get a photo of the front of the house but it looked a lot like your photo..

Nope. My Dad took some snapshots and did a 'walk-thru' with the realtor. We sent the Realtor a check for partial payment before we left Cali, paid off the rest a day after we arrived and got our keys. I didn't see the inside of our house till that day... I'll DM you a link to the pictures my Dad sent and tell you the rest of the story!!

That's the only negatives I know of so far.

Postives

1. The people are friendly and welcoming.
2. There is plenty of employment in the larger cities.
3. The cost of housing is LOW compared to most of the country.
4. Eastern OK has beautiful scenery.

Sorry I couldn't come up with five things in either category.
Well, regarding number 3 in the negative category, you just can't change the weather reputation in Oklahoma. Now, if anyone can actually uproot the entire state of Oklahoma and position it just south of Dallas, you might have a chance with a magnificent Mexican Fan palm!

okpondlady will become famous soon enoughokpondlady will become famous soon enough
I was born in Oklahoma. Joined the Air Guard to go see new and interesting places..but not have to live there. I have been to England for 2 weeks.< BLECK! > I lived in Tampa for 3 months for Desert Shield/Storm. <Probably my favorite other than CHECOTAH!!!>
And I visited Reno a few times to visit my elderly aunt. Reno was OK but fast paced and expensive.
I lived in Tulsa for 10 years after coming home from Tampa. After Tulsa living in Small Town Checotah was quite a change. I have come to love it and wouldn't go back for ANYTHING. I sure wouldn't want to move my kids back up there. Now I have found out my husbands company is moving to Jenks in 12-18 months. At least it is far enough south from Tulsa we can be pretty rural. I will not live in a major city again. It is just to busy, to fast, ect. On the other hand. I am a Girl Scout Leader and ALL the activities in our Council are in Tulsa. (ok the GOOD activities)
I like where I live.
Yes we have bugs. *I have bug spray!!*
Yes we have humidity. Not that bad I think.
Heat?? well yeah but so what? I have AC.
I have lived through a few ice storms here.
Could have been worse. I have always had natural gas so I was ok. The worse part about the ice storms were my PARENTS and my 16 year old sister moved in with me for a WEEK. I have girls 10 yr old and 14 yr old.
So we ended up with 4 adults and 3 kids in a home used to only 4. Was strained to be nice. We worked with it. At least they were at MY house and I wasn't at THEIR house. I like that better.
