1. Summer heat (but that is better than Alaskan cold)
2. Winter Ice (but it soon goes away and is better than Alaskan snow)
3. Rude city people (but the rest of the state is super friendly)
4. Tornadoes (but they are well tracked in the news and provide excitement)
5. Too many bible-thumpers (but they are well-meaning folks)

Why do you think it's called "The Bible Belt"?

Baptists, Southern in particular. If they removed those from Oklahoma it would be a much better place.

Pretty funny BustedKnee, also like your name.

I thought that the bible belt was going to be a hard place for me to live, but I am not bothered by it at all. And what I do find here is that many of the Christian religions are helping the poor in so many ways that I am impressed. One such group called Angel Food gives out a lot of food once a month for a small amount of money to anyone that desires it, whether they are rich or poor. I know of a pastor that gives money to help people with gas without asking questions, and will even pay for a families room at a local motel. The list goes on.

And now they are having bazaars at all of the churches, and so I get to go and buy Christmas gifts and baked goodies that the women have made. The church people here are very friendly, and no one has pressured me to go to church nor have I been asked if I have been saved. But I do know this, MK or Synopsis, Do not ask? I onto you guys. First you have Peggy and I photo hunting for bigfoots, and next you will ask this question. I just see it coming.

Well,... if we followed that logic...

If they removed the heat/humidity, ticks, mosquitos, and chiggers... Oklahoma would be a better place, but then it wouldn't be Oklahoma!

So let's just keep the NDNs, baptists, ranchers, meth labs, rednecks, bigfoot, and -even- the OU/OSU fanatics, because that is what makes us unique.

What are NDNs? All I want removed is the Meth Labs and other dangerous drugs. Well, the ticks, chiggers, and mosquitoes can go too. But as I said, I am learning to deal with them.

I agree if we just sent the meth labs, crackheads, gangbangers, illegal aliens, and sourthern baptists to Kansas then Oklahoma might be an OK place to visit every couple of years..

I'm new here, but I noticed the comment about Whitesboro. I grew up there and we had a really bad one come thur and tear up the school when I was a kid. It also destroyed several homes. It was the only tornado I have actually "seen". Pretty impressive. Good luck with your decision.

Well, I've lived here much of my life, but I've lived all over the U.S. at one time or another in my life. I would have to agree with: 1. Wages. Folks see how inexpensive our homes are but they are priced relative to the cost of living according to most research I've seen. 2. Roads They are horrible. 3. Bugs Chiggers especially!! If you live in the country, they are a terrible. So are the mosquitos, and ticks. They carry diseases that are life threatening. Brown spiders, the recluse type, are also a problem in Oklahoma. There is a type of stun gun that can be used to treat their bites but few people, other than those in my family, seem to know about that. 4. Health Care Oklahoma is dangerous!! You are fairly safe in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas but rural Oklahoma health care is about 20 years behind. Fewer employers provide health care insurance and the Medicaid program is scary. 5. Drinking Drivers Oklahoma has not done a good job with preventing this. I lived in Pennsylvania and was amazed. You can not buy a cold beer unless you go to a restaurant. Here, you can waltz in and get as many as you like in the grocery market.
