I had to add my 2 cents worth of opinion on this one.lol. I think you will like Oklahoma. It might take some time to get used to at first. There are a few things that I would list as " the worst things ".But these all depend on where you end up living. Here in SW Oklahoma the following.
![]() 1.Allergies 2.wind blowing most days 3.Dust storms only a few during the days of drought. 4.spiders, crickets, snakes(near the mountains) 5.tornados, thunderstorms-Cool to watch or dangerous--depending on the severity. ![]() 6.rough roads Just be yourself and you'll be liked for who you are. ![]() |

I guess I don't understand about the "low paying jobs", but I have heard that time and time again. We moved from California due to the high cost of living and the fact the tech market is absolutely FLOODED. I had to commute 70 minutes to Sacramento because I couldn't find office admin type work because no hablo espanol and those were the jobs that paid more than $10/hr. DH makes more with one of those major corporations who relocated to OKC than he made in CA (about 33% more). I did office admin type work with a concentration in MS Office software and desktop publishing and I was offered nearly what I was making in the Sacramento area through a temp agency.
I've gotten several cases of sour grapes from people when I say we're doing better than we were in CA. DH didn't take a job from ANYONE. We both graduated (BA and AA) from a state school/community college which ALSO exist in OKC, just as they did in Sacramento for us. We then started with our OTJ training in our fields with all the aforementioned issues. Last edited by FutureFormerCalifornian; 08-21-2007 at 04:01 PM.. Reason: clarification |

I think this is so funny. I've lived in Oklahoma for 29 years, and I would consider myself sheltered, considering I feel like I've been safe all my life! I know every state has bad areas, but I don't think you have anything to worry about. You may not find alot of things to keep you busy at first, but they are out there. Good luck! You'll love it!

My major problem is, we are NO where near an ocean or beach!!! And we have NO trees or mountains!!! But the good thing about no trees or mountains is, you can actually SEE the sun rise and set.... that is nice. It is definitley FLAT here!!! Be prepared!!
Good luck with your move!! Do you mind me asking, where in OK you are moving too? Welcome to the great state of Oklahoma! This year is our 100th birthday!! Shari ![]() |

Of course the flat and treeless would only be for 1/2 of the state...considering that the other half is the opposite.

My thoughts exactly.

Well, I usually don't focus so much on the negative, but if I had to list the five worst things about OK, here they are:
5. Lack of mileage indicators on I-35 between Pauls Valley and Ardmore (particularly southbound). 4. Freeway-to-side street interchanges in Norman from I-35. Somebody please put in a clearance lane to merge into. It's dangerous, man! 3. Tornadoes. But we can't fix that. 2. Overall highway infrastructure. But I have seen some improvement in both metro areas, but you've still got a ways to go. 1. The way-too-strict no-tolerance speed laws. And those yellow "Watch Your Speed - We Are" signs are rapidly disappearing. I always have to drive below the speed limit when in Oklahoma. I'm afraid some police officer will pull me over, just waiting to nail some innocent Texan making one little mistake. And there you are. ![]() |
