Below is a picture of a house in our neighborhood with some kind of palm tree (the kind I do not know). Interesting how they filled in those windows near the palm tree with what looks like shells from the beach. I guess they are palm lovers like Jammie!

Update.. Choctaw2 tells me that this is a Joshua tree, which thrives in the Mojave Desert.
Considering the heat down here lately (100+ most every day), it is right at home but probably wouldn't survive in Oklahoma's cooler climate.

I had 7 of those in my yard in CA Near the town of Mojave. Squirrels and Chipmunks loved them. Every summer they produce seed pods about the size of lemons. when they dry out they (the animals) climb the trees to get the seeds to store for winter food. Long ago the American Indians also used the seeds as food and except for the leaves made use of the entire tree, for different things, because the trunks are fibrous (no age rings) that fiber was also used for a time to make paper so I read.
Here's a link to some more pictures. These trees grow throughout the Mohave Desert in both CA and AZ.
Joshua Tree, Yucca brevifolia
Those birds are beautiful! Now I have to go bac to page 24 and start enjoying all these Oklahoma pictures again. I want to thank all of you for making me homesick. sniff sniff. LOL

Yucca is a general label for a desert type plant.....I don't know them well enough to identify individual varieties. I just assumed that when they get old enough and big enough they become Joshua Trees. They thrive in harsh environments, and they do well in Oklahoma. You just don't see them much for some reason in the eastern part of the state. In the high desert and mesas of western Oklahoma they are common.

If y'all say so, but I lived with them in the Mohave desert for well over 40 years and everyone there knows them to be Joshua trees. Even the very smallest is just a baby tree.

Synopsis, thank you for the pictures. But whenever you feel like starting a thread like "Palm Pics for Jammie", go right ahead.

I just got an email with the most incredible photos of a volcano in Chile erupting into a lightning storm, and I can't figure out how to post it. Anyone want me to forward it to them so they can do it?
Give me good ol' hot OK anytime!

Cool~after it's posted, do you mind if I link it to the weather forum? I'm sure the members there would love to see something like that.
