We live in Hughes County, which is south central. It's nice because it's an equal distance from OKC, Tulsa, and McAlester.
I have had several close calls with the four leggeds here recently. They are out and about in numbers at dusk and dawn. It's not anywhere near as bad as Michigan or up north, but just enough to keep one wary of Bambi and her mommy.

Oz is correct. To think I started out as a librarian with bad teeth and too many tattoos, so they transferred me out of the department.
The punishment for overdue books in Oz is severe.
Here is a peek at yesteryear, 1/14/07 ice storm. We're not there yet, but it is coming soon to an okie outdoor theater near you.

LOL, have to laugh at you about OZ. I know most people don't like the ice storms, but I think they are beautiful (as long as they leave the power on)
Can't wait to get there, be there in about 2 weeks.

Heres a CA question for ya...
What is an ice storm? Is it just rain that freezes when it hits the ground? Then, what is snow?
I know you are all probably snickering 'bout now, but I figured who better to ask than you all?

When a storm blows through Oklahoma, they often stretch from KS to TX and we fall in between the areas of snow to the north and rain to the south.
It comes down as freezing rain mixed with rain, but if the storm continues overnight- when the temps drop below freezing, the results are an ice storm and the results are deadly for trees, streets, and wires.
People here on CDF have a lot of cool pics from the last one. The ones below are from 2 winters ago. Notice how thick the ice is over the windshield wipers. That is ice on the hood of the truck, not snow. It is hard packed ice.
Note the ice ball on top of the radio antenna.

A snow storm is different from an ice storm. As RB said, when the temp is just right, too warm for snow, but too cold for rain, you get freezing rain, which if it continues is an ice storm. When temps are cold enough, you get snow instead of ice. Snow is fluffier than ice drops. Sometimes it can be very dry, sort of powder-like, or sometimes very wet, like slush. If you've never seen a snowfall, you're in for a treat!
I haven't gone through an entire winter here, but I understand OK doesn't get a whole lot of snow, but you can get the occasional good snowfall. I'ts hard to imagine someone who doesn't know what snow is, but I guess if you've lived all your life in a warm climate, snow would be a big question mark. You've come to the right place for answers, though.
