Wikipedia has a good writeup about the January Ice Storm for those interested...
January 2007 North American ice storm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

And the 2004 Christmas Eve Snowstorm ... 2004 Christmas Eve Snowstorm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EDIT: Victoria had 13.0", not 14" sorry Corpus, being a bit further closer to the coast had 5.2".

How's everything going for y'all today (I hope it's nothing but good news )?

Thanks Anthony. Those are interesting links. From what I hear, it's mostly rain today in OkC with a temp of 34, but it will go below freezing again tonight. Let's hope all of that rain (massive amounts from the radar) doesn't refreeze and make things worse.

Peggy, Every time I come into this thread and see the pic of your "Real Cowboy" I get a little melancholy.

So, I am going to tell a little story about someone who touched our lives before I turn off the comp (for the day) and give myself a little 'time out'. (I actually let my temper get up last night over someone's snarky remark about Oklahoman work ethics. )

Some time after we moved here, our Daughter met some young men who came into the store where she worked. These boys (like MANY Oklahoma youth) were hard working, polite and fun-loving Ranch kids. These boys would always call her "Ma'am" Being only 19 and coming from CA our daughter didn't quite know how to handle that! LOL

One day they stopped in and mentioned a Ranch roping competition they were going to at our local fairgrounds... the daughter pouted and told them she would just LOVE to see them working their horses but she couldn't get time off to go.

Well, those boys being true Gentleman Cowboys hated to see her sad, so right after the competition they paid her another little visit... They rode their horses right through town, up to her store, and into the Drive-up window! They waited until she got a break, and then they scooped her into the saddle and took her for spin around the parking lot.

(I still think that was the moment our Daughter fell in love with Oklahoma )

Sadly one of those fine young men is no longer with us. While on his way to classes in January of this year, he hit an icy patch in the road... His truck slid off the road into a small ditch and he died before they could get him out.

He was a true Cowboy in every sense of the word! We still miss him, and we will always be Thankful for the way he touched our lives.

Now that our Daughter is out of school I kinda miss hearing the sound of a Pickup in the drive around 3pm, followed by running footsteps and laughter as they pushed each other out of the way to see who could kick off their boots and make it in the front door first... and the look on my hubby's face when he would come home to a pile of muddy Ranch boots on the porch.

I'm off to wrap some presents and listen to the rain. Take Care everyone!

Peggy, that's a wonderful story and I'm sorry it ended so sadly. There are so many people who have lost their lives due to ice. I'm guessing you guys probably have black ice, too and that's got to be the worst because you don't know you have to slow down or be cautious.

Anythony, I didn't realize that much snow fell in the Victoria area. I remember watching it on tv that week, but didn't remember the amounts of snowfall. It was the same time as the tsunami.

It's unbelievable how much area this ice storm is covering. Somewhow we lucked out.

It's a little unusual to have two ice storms this severe two years in a row. Actually Oklahoma get's an ice storm about once a year but they are hardly every this bad. But to answer your question, no, it's not that unusual. Winter in Oklahoma can be a rollercoaster ride.

That figures.

So tell me.
Where in the rules does it say that Moderators cannot be informed of their mistakes?
After all, that wasn't "Political Correctness", or was it?
