THAT is totally awesome. I love birds, and the bald eagle is our national pride. Wow, just wow.. Thanks for posting redbird. Do eagles have any special significance in Native American lore?

Those are really nice pictures.
I've only been to the out skirts of OKC to drop off a U-Haul trailer.

Great photo of bald eagle. also of OKC, but got a real laugh out of the redneck photos. That guy advertising his cheating wife was so funny. I like the riding mower. You never know we may all one day have to be creative as these people, that is, if the country goes bankrupt or something.

Oh yeah. Big time. They are revered and have a special place in our ceremonies. I won't tell anymore stories about the feds trying to mess with Native People's rights to own eagle feathers.
I don't want to go on the war path during christmas season.

I have a friend that used to call me Feather Finder. I have a few hawk feathers. Someday I hope to find an eagle feather. I would keep it as a secret. I know that they are special. I always find them on the ground when hiking.

There is some special significance in finding a feather while walking. Any feather. The significance is different for each person.
For the busy person, it could just be chance and ho-hum, step over it.
For the searching person, it could be the answer is found.
For the sacred journey, it is a sign you are on the right path. I think each finds his or her own meaning.
On a personal note, I usually pick them up, but if it happens at my work, prison , where we have a million of those starlings, I walk around it. We are very superstitious of animal signs.
I remember back in 1997 I was contemplating moving to OK and wondering when I would be able to afford it, and wondering if I should secure a job first, etc, when one day I came out from work and an eagle was circling then it flew off to the south.
What was weird was no one else seemed to notice this eagle.
Not one person was watching it, I thought THAT was strange, are we humans so busy, we can't even acknowledge this beautiful bird which symolizes so much to so many? The eagle was flying perhaps the height of a telephone pole.
I know many cynics and skeptics will scoff at my superstition, and thats okay, but I have always been mindful of spiritual connections to animals and Great Spirit.

Jess, where do you live? I can tell you the best places to find them. Sometimes it requires a hike, but all good things in life require some sacrifice.
I used to count bald eagles for the US Fish and Wildlife Service up in NE Kansas during the winter months.
I helped trap and band three juveniles of the first nesting pair of bald eagles in KS. Did you know the juvenile bald eagle's feathers are longer and broader than the adults? Could be the Great Spirit knows the fledgelings are not as adept flyers as the adults.

Not an Oklahoma eagle but an interesting story. What a beautiful Bird...I'd not want to tangle with one of them. This bird was found by a friends husband on Dec 8, 2007 in WY. Story below:
Quote:
Last Saturday my husband found this eagle out on a lease. It had evidently been shocked by the power lines and fallen to the ground. It was on its back when he found it and when he discovered it wasn't dead, he turned it over. It was obviously badly hurt but able to move and he thought it might just be disoriented from the fall and laying on its back. When it was still there the next day, one of the pumpers shot a rabbit and threw it close enough the eagle could get it. They've been doing that twice a day since Saturday and last night, a coyote or a bobcat tried to kill it. Jeff said the snow was all torn up and there were bits of fur and blood around. The eagle was well enough to successfully defend itself and didn't have any wounds. So they called the Game and Fish biologist who came out and got it and is taking it to a rehab center in Cody. You can't begin to appreciate the size or ferocity of these birds from this picture. I wish you could see his claws...they're at least 5 inches long and his feet are bigger than Jeff's hand. Definitely a force to be reckoned with, as some animal found out last night.
