I love how peaceful it was! I lived around the Disney area, and I would go down to the beach almost everyday. So much fun swimming and taking the boat out.

Grand Lake is a special place, no doubt.

I'm partial to Lake Eufaula and Lake Murray and Lake of the Arbuckles though. But sssssssshhhhhhhhhhh......we've convinced the Texans that our best lakes are Tenkiller and Texoma.

Haha I went to Lake Eucha too. Used to watch the horseshoe tournaments over there. It was fun! I never got a chance to visit Lake Eufaula, Lake Murray, and Lake of the Arbuckles. I hope if I ever get back out there, I am able to get out and explore more.

I live in Mattoon, Illinois. It is in the east central part. We have a few smaller lakes around a 25 mile radius, but there was just something I loved about the atmosphere in Oklahoma. I haven't found it anywhere else. 😊

Grove is a nice town but for the money you could do better in Missouri.

Some place in Missouri would compare to Grove moneywise? I don't think so.

I was raised in the Peoria area and lived there many years. I lived in MO before I knew Grand Lake existed and hated it. I saw the lake one night and moved wihin a month and stayed for a number of years. When I was homesick I found a place in Grove that looks almost identical to Grandview Drive in Peoria that overlooks the river. I do know where Matoon is too.

OK is two states. The eastern half is very reminiscent of central Illinois with the forests, rivers, rolling hills and wild life. The western half is very different with its pumpjacks and large universities. Tulsa is 10 times larger, but it is very much a cross of Springfield x Peoria in what it offers in shopping, restaurants, medical care, ect. Grove in the NE corner is convenient to KC, Tulsa, Hot Springs, and even Dallas and St. Louis. I would say, conservatively, that Matoon is about a 10 hours or less drive. I could drive to Peoria in less than 8 hours. There is much to see and explore not far from home when you live in Grove. The medical care in Grove is really quite good for a small town. Tulsa is excellent for major medical such as heart surgery.

If the internet is important than you do want to live in town. Rural America sucks when it comes to providing good, or even fast broadband.

Do not speed in MO. You will get a ticket and be escorted by police to the nearest magistrate where you will pay the fine then and there. My fine in 1982 was $50. There is no coming back or pay-by-mail options.

Come visit Grove for a week, Matoon will never look the same.
