Here we go! I'm an "old nubie" and just ran across Grove, OK in the "Where to Retire" periodical and it sparked an interest with me. I haven't said I discussed it with the wife, but I was interested.
We are currently living in Las Vegas, NV and have done so for almost 40 years. The summer temperatures are starting to affect me more and I am considering looking for a cooler place to spend the summers where we can fish and just kick back with less stress. I have been retired for about 3 years from the slot machine business and enjoy the inter-net, political websites and am active in trying to get rid of all the ILLEGAL ALIENS we are supporting with our tax money. Nevada is split on this issue but I feel.... Whoops, that's another day.
We would be looking for a lake area property with access but not necessarily a mansion on the property. We travel in a motor home and could live in it even if we only had a place to park it on someone else's property, with their approval of course. We travel with two Golden Retrievers and love dogs. One of our girls is currently suffering with breast cancer and probably won't last through the winter months. No fear, there are too many rescue dogs out there and we will find another, not that we could replace this one in our hearts.
For those who read and respond as well as those who don't reply, Merry Christmas and God bless us all in 2009. We will definitely need all the help we can get.

Hi Mistrbill, So sorry to hear about your ill puppy. They are so much a part of the family and it's so hard to lose them.
Grove would be a very nice place for you, but OK does have some humidity so their summer may not be quite as cool as you're hoping it would be. I've never been there in the summertime, but I am a weather addict and I check out Grove's temps quite often.
Evidently you're aware of the wonderful thing that OK has done regarding illegals.

Hi Mistrbill
I have lived in the Grove Area for the last 10 years. It is a great little area, it has a large summer home and retirement population. If you are in to water, fishing, hunting, golfing and the like it is a great area. The summers can reach 105 with 70-80% humidity, but if you are neck deep in the lake the humidity can be much higher . If you have any questions just ask,.

Hi Cloud and welcome!
I have a question~What is your economy like in Grove? I do ocassionally read your online newspaper and there are very few Want Ads for Employment. Is it that grim there or is there a different place that they advertise?
AND I was wondering if the new casino was ever built and if so, is it up and running?
The new resort with the condos~did that ever materialize?
Sorry, I guess that was more then one question.

Grove update
Hello, in answer to your question"s". Grove economy is pretty stable, but not booming. Most of the jobs are in the service industry. The manufacturing is pretty limited, 4-5 companies that employ under 200.
The big casino in Grove has not happened, "yet". There are 5-6 casinos with in 20 min of Grove.
as for the condos and resort. I am assuming you are refering to the referb of "Shengrila" It has changed hands "again" but as far as I know the golf course is the only still up and running
I hope this helps

Thank you. Yes, that's it~the Shangrila. How disappointing that they haven't been able to pull that off yet and get it built.
I wasn't aware that the Grove area had any manufacturing. Guess we were too enthralled by the Lake and beauty of the area. What sort of companies do you have there?

Mainly casinos! Seems like there are half a dozen within 20 miles of Grove, they are all over the place!

We went to Vegas a few weeks ago and although we thought there were a lot of people there, they said business was WAY down and a huge portion of the workers were laid off. Kinda sad cause their economy isn't well at all.
Vegas has some beautiful places, but we're more "Grove-type" people. Tulsa is nice, but if we ever moved there, it'd mainly be because of a lack of employment in a Grove-like place.
So are you saying there are no factories in that area?

There are now over 650 casinos in Oklahoma! Yes, I'd say they are doing quite well! The annual revenue from Oklahoma casinos, and this was two years ago, was over $70B. Yes, I said 70 billion! More than twice what it is in Vegas.
