Kurt -- great to hear you're from ND. We've been Grand Forks residents for 19 years and looking to move south when we can finally retire in 3-4. Been checking out Arkansas areas, and have found some really great ones -- but my mother, believe it or not -- is pushing me to check out Grove. We were there a couple of days a few years back for Dad's 80th birthday. Great lake -- not as scenic as the Ozarks, but the more I'm studying it out the more I think I ought to take another look. Can you tell me anything about Meghan's Cove?

Grove would be a very nice place for you, but OK does have some humidity so their summer may not be quite as cool as you're hoping it would be. I've never been there in the summertime, but I am a weather addict and I check out Grove's temps quite often.

Evidently you're aware of the wonderful thing that OK has done regarding illegals.
I know I'm coming in to this late, but what has OK done regarding illegals?

Sorry to jump in here but does anyone know if Lake O' The Cherokees can be traveled by houseboat all the way to Eufaula Reservoir or east into Arkansas eventually to the Mississippi?

Thank you for any info..

I'm 99 percent sure that would be impossible. I don't think those lakes are all connected by rivers. And if so, a lot of those rivers are very shallow; some even dry at times.

No.

Grand Lake, Hudson, Ft Gibson although connected, do not have the locks necessary to raise a boat from sea level to 600 feet.

There is a marina in Muskogee on the Arkansas Kerr/McClellan canal/waterway that CAN connect you to the ocean via the
Arkansas/Mississippi to the gulf. But Tulsa is the furthest inland it goes. and The furthest inland with marina facilities for private boats is in Muskogee,

I agree. I believe Grand Lake run off is fed by the Spring River, but I have no idea how deep it is. The south end of the lake ends at Pensacola Dam and a pile of rocks. As far as I know you can pass under the three bridges.

I don't know how you define "as scenic as the Ozarks" but the next time you visit, do take the four hours to drive around the lake. I spent a lot of time in NW Arkansas in the Ozark and Boston Mountains, so I understand that area. Grove is in the foothills - and if you drive much farther west, they disappear. However, If you drive around Icebox Bluff the views of the lake are spectacular. OK 10 has a cut off and another view of the lake, too. Do come in early October when the white pelicans are on the lake.

Thanks all! I got some information that you go from Tulsa down into Arkansas to the Mississippi but not back up from Arkansas to Oklahoma because of the currents on the Arkansas river. In any case from what I hear about Eufaula reservoir...maybe I would like it enough to just stay there. Is it as beautiful as I've read?..and what towns would be good to live in near there?...thanks again!

Good question, we passed an illegal immigration bill a couple years ago that was the envy of the nation, and many states have followed with similar bills. The bill is quite simple: if you employ or house an illegal you are subject to felony prosecution. Now enforcing the newly passed law may be a different story, but at least it's on the books now. It also caused a self deportation too which was one of the better aspects of the bill. If you can't find work, nor find a place to stay, what are you going to do, LEAVE is the only answer! The state just needs to prosecute a couple employers and a few landlords and the message will be loud and clear!

Oklahoma illegal immigration law could spread to other states « Morning Coffee
