I am going to be in Pryor next week for a job interview. I am only going to be there over two days. What should I see so that I could get a feel or a vibe for the area. Note, I am from California. OK would be a big change.

Well, you're only going to be about 15 miles from Tulsa, and five miles from Lake Hudson. I'm not sure exactly what area you are wanting to look at. If you are going to live in Tulsa, I would suggest going there. Please read my post (Synopsis) in the following thread for tips on what to do in the Tulsa area. There are hyperlinks to many of the areas that I suggest.
As far as Pryor goes, I don't know that area so I can't help much there. Are you by any chance going to interview for Google? I hear they are moving some jobs to that area. Another Tulsa suggestion? Good luck on your job interview! |

My name kinda gives away what I will be interviewing for. Though the growth potential of Pryor with Gatorade and Google have piqued my interest.

You could go west about 20 miles on Highway 20 to Claremore and visit the Will Rogers Museum and Memorial. Its a nice, very "Oklahoman" thing to do. Grab a bite to eat at the Hammett House Restaurant while you're there (be sure to have some pie). As mentioned, its only about another 20 miles from there to Tulsa, where there is a lot to do (Philbrook, Gilcrease, Aquarium, Zoo, etc.).
Or for a nice drive through the countryside, you could go east from Pryor on Hwy 20 to Salina, go north on 20 through Spavinaw and toward Jay, then south on Hwy 10 along the Illinois River to Tahlequah. Have some Pizza at Sam n' Ella's in Tahlequah and see the Old Cherokee Capitol and Supreme Court (c. 1844) and the street signs printed in English and Cherokee. Then go west on Hwy 51 across Ft. Gibson Lake to Wagoner and then take US 69 North back to Pryor. That would be about a 150 mile round trip and you would see some beautiful scenery of the area we call "Green Country." |

Pastorblaine,
We moved to Salina from Apple Valley, CA (the High Desert) in 2005. My husband has since been diagnosed with Asthma. When the trees bloom in the spring is the worst. Asthma aside we LOVE it here in Salina, being able to hunt and fish practically in our own backyard is a definate plus. You haven't lived until you have snagged for spoonbill down at Low water. The weather keeps you on your toes. We have been assured that the two hail storms that beat up our cars (You absolutely must have a carport or garage!) and the ice storm that left us without electricity for eight, yes, EIGHT days are not normal weather for this area. :0) Pryor is nice, Claremore is awsome and Salina is HOME. Hope your interview goes well, the people here are great. |

You are very close to South Grand. The big dam is pretty impressive and they give a great tour. Ride the art deco elevator down to the big power generators under the dam. Then go over to a nice waterfront park in Disney. Have a picnic or eat at the Chicken Coop in Langley. Hope you get a great church.

In addition to the other great suggestions you might consider Har-Ber Village near Grove, about an hour or so from Pryor.
