Default Edmond girl moving to Muskogee area

Help me out here. I've lived in Edmond all of my life. I love it here, but due to a job we will be moving to the Muskogee area. The actual job is in Ft. Gibson however. I have heard bad things about Muskogee. Can anyone tell me about the towns around there? Coweta, Tahlequah and such. I think that BA would be too far of a drive to work each day for my husband. I want fantastic schools for my child, which will be hard to find after living in Edmond all of my life. I also want a bigger school for him. We will more than likely buy land and build a house wherever we end up. Any input? Thanks!

I would recommend that you also try to live in Ft. Gibson. It has a nicer school system, and is much quieter. It is just a short drive to Muskogee, and not so far to Tulsa, if you need more. You will also obviously be quite close to the Lake of the same name. Good Luck.

I was going to suggest Ft. Gibson too. While it is a small town it is really cute and in the country. It is very close to Muskogee.

If I were going that direction I would look at Tahlequah. I am not sure if the school will match up to what you are used to, but kids who want to learn always will.

I agree with you about the schools Nita. Small schools in Oklahoma regularly produce National Merit Scholars. I don't disagree with having the large schools, and certainly some schools need to be consolidated, but the small town schools can be very good for some kids.

Tahlequah is 20 to 25 minutes from Ft. Gibson, and if you don't mind the drive I would choose Tahlequah too. Well, in fact I did. I live in Tahlequah. But after seeing Ft. Gibson I think it is a cute small town. I know nothing about the schools in either place.

Tahlequah/Northeastern Oklahoma State University and Area

How about Tahlequah?
