Barfly, you may want to go to the website of the Tulsa Now Forum. They have a lot of very helpful Okies there and they may be able to answer your question since Grove is near there. We are hoping to go to OK next month and although we plan on spending most of our time in Tulsa, we're definitely going to visit Grove. It's too bad that a few of our states don't have much representation here, but hopefully in time more people will find us here.

It all depends on your likes/dislikes. Also keep in mind that Grand is a very popular lake so if you're seeking isolation, that isn't the lake to be at.

You can do as we just did. We close on a house just outside of Jay(very near Grove) in Dec. It's on Lake Eucha, and beautiful. The house and 6.5 acres for 63,000, and taxes at $300 a year. Great isolation from the tourists and lot sharing neighbor seen, but only a few miles to everything you need

I'm not sure if you've already found your home or not, but we found the nicest, gated area near Grove. It's called Megan's Cove. It consists of condos and it appears to be very nice there.
They have a pool and a nice little waterfall with a little stream by it. It's along the road between Jay and Grove and it's just a bit outside of Grove. VERY NICE place.![]() |

I have a lakehouse on South Grand that I got for 225K. It is on the main lake with fantastic view and nice shore--no sand but rock pebbles. South Grand is deeper and has the clearest water. If you go North of Sail Boat bridge or north of Grove you can get much cheaper digs. But that water is shallower and can get some silt after heavy rains on the river. It is great fishing.
Eucha or Spavinaw area is also less expensive. It is very nice and not far from "the action" and a good deal quieter. I think you will find the entire Grand Lake area very clean, friendly, and just beginning to transform itself into a great retirement area. Grove is still a small town but a very quaint downtown development project is planned. It is nothing like Portland or Seattle but it will have artsy stuff, antiques, and coffee shops. Yeah, Californians are moving in, but there is still a real down home Midwestern/Southern feel to the area. Folks fish, hunt, and go to church. But they are not self-righteous or overly judgemental. Medical facilities are on site or are coming. Advanced cardiac care will soon be available in Grove if it is not already. Grand Lake is big and long! Langley on the South end is just starting to develop. They are building a new visitor center there and it will become a smaller version of Grove. Jay is a nice little town--kind of quaint Southern feel to it. Lots of Native Americans around and are very proud of their heritage. But they are not resentful of newcomers. Just respect them and their heritage. I am a Christian but had a nice talk with a Cherokee about the mystical qualities of turquoise jewelry. Yeah, the Great Spirit made us all. You know, be kind and most will be kind to you. I have to work a bit longer here in Pensacola. But will spend a good part of the Summer at Grand, Lord Willing. I also have land in Louisiana. Grand gets a few inches of snow and I just may have to do something further south, too, as I am a whimp when it comes to cold weather. Oh, and Grand is a River Authority Lake so you can have a nice dock right in front of your place and cut trees for a view if they are not below the take line. There is no real building setback to contend with on the lake. Hope to hear from you sometime. |

We are retiring to Ok. We too are looking at Grand Lake, you gave us more info than any realtor. Do you recommend or know anyone in real estate in the area?

Here is the official Grand Lake paper, online:
The Chronicle of Grand Lake The south grand lake area has a lot more activity than the northern end, mainly due to all the yacht clubs and it's close proximity to Tulsa. There are numerous very nice housing additions on the lake, The Points is a very nice area on the south end of the lake, also the Coves on Duck Creek is another nice gated community. Jerry Hamm of Duck Creek realtors is a good real estate agent. One of the problems with the agencies around the lake is they only want to show you their listings, not sure why. Best way to look at property is to hop in a boat and do it by water, find it on the map, mark it's location and then find it by land. |
