Default Crime in Comanche and area.

Hello Folks.

It appears that the crime rate in Comanche has doubled in the last four years. Mostly theft, burglary and auto theft. This is so darn sad.

Does this extend to the rual areas and lake Waurika?

Thank you very much, Jack

I live and work in the Comanche, Oklahoma, area. I think most of the crime is related to the high meth use in Stephens and Jefferson counties. I think the crime rise extends to all ares of southwest Oklahoma. I certainly see it in my job as a teacher because it is getting much harder to actually "teach" children today because so many of them come from homes with meth and other drug usage going on (which in turn leads to divorced households, jailed parents, etc.), and students today can't seem to focus on anything. (This doesn't even include the fetal alcohol syndrome children I deal with daily.) It is sad to see that Comanche and the surrounding areas have so many crime problems.

Yikes! I was considering a job in Wichita Falls and living in rural Stephens or Jefferson county. Is meth use in that area higher than surrounding areas?? I thought that Duncan-Marlow-Comanche areas were supposedly nice places to live, at least better than Lawton.

According to a law enforcement official that spoke at one of our teachers' meetings, Stephens County has the highest meth use of the 77 counties of Oklahoma.

Hello. I am considering applying for a teaching positon in
Comanche....just south of Duncan. Do you think those statistics are probably much worse now? I appreciate your previous posts. It does help place things in perspective.

Meth is definitely still a problem in Stephens/Jefferson County. I grew up in Waurika and it was/is everywhere. I would try to find a job elsewhere.

It goes to show ya why I think marijuana should be legalized. Then it could be kept separate from illegal drugs and sold and monitored out in the open like alcohol and cigarettes. People, especially underaged looking kids, would start having to show ID before buying pot. Just the other day I had to show ID before I could buy beer, even though I'm over 40. So let's have that going on for pot, too. Then law enforcement officers and investigative operations could better concentrate on rooting out the really bad, highly addictive drugs, like meth.

Meth seems bad all over. About a couple of years ago in Stillwater about a dozen people were arrested over it in a singe crack down.

It is bad all over, but moreso in Duncan, Lawton, Waurika, and every other small town in the SW part of OK. There were about 6 people, including myself, out of my class of 40 kids that had never tried it. I should also say that when I was a freshman we had 40 people - by my senior year there were only 12 of us left...

Thanks, proudvoterofObama, for answering my question about moving to Stephens/Jefferson Counties. I will certainly remember your advice. Best wishes to you and your family.
