The best by far, IMHO, is the Cherokee Casino in Tulsa. I know for a fact they are offering some decent card games. Anything away from the metro areas are more than likely going to be a glorified bingo hall. As for employment with the Indian tribes, be extra careful; they are out from under Oklahoma state law, and they have been known to pull some interesting shenanigans. |

I will be relocating to Little Rock and want some information on the casinos nearby (Oklahoma, Mississippi).
Which ones are nearest to Little Rock? |

Firstly, I know nothing of which ones are good/bad etc....
Bartlesville has a new one opening, was supposed to be open Feb 8 but has had a delay of some sorts. Tulsa OK has a few and again I don't know if they are good or bad. My wife's aunt plays at one and she has really done well over the last couple years. Tulsa is about a 4 hour drive and Bartlesville would tack on another 45minutes straight north. Best of Luch, Dave |

I don't mind them owning casinos but I wonder WHY others aren't allowed to have casinos here or even a few one arm bandits. I imagine have a couple or three one arm bandits would help some small Mom & Pop stores stay in business. I don't gamble much - hardly ever, except for playing the lottery a little here in Missouri. But I've already paid taxes on my money - so if I want to gamble it away - why does someone else forbid me doing that? On the road to Las Vegas when we lived in California -we saw Lucky's Grocerys with one armed bandits in there - it wasn't a problem for them. Freeing up the small gambling operations would help a lot of people and those that don't like it would just not go there. The Casino in Missouri where my wife works is owned by a lasvegas group - they are not Indian. In Missouri we have an attorney general that is deadset against all forms of gambling. I read now that Kansas wants to operate it's own casino and the Indian tribes in Oklahoma want to operate it for them. all opinions welcome - I hope this isn't too far offtopic. MajorHart |

I don't go to casinos because gambling has little appeal for me. I think the casinos have been really good for most of the Tribes. I live in the Muscogee (Creek) nation and they have really done a lot with the casino money. They have helped pave roads that everyone can drive on. After the wildfires a couple of years ago, they bought new fire trucks for several communities. One of those fire trucks would be the one to come to my house if it were on fire.
In a way it is like reparations, to me. I am sure the state government would have liked to stop the gaming, but it is here now and I think it is a good thing. We do have a lottery now, but it is not very popular. |

Casinos in Oklahoma is big business!! Last year the casinos brought in over $70B in revenue. As a comparison, Vegas only brought in $35B!

OMG, that's a fortune!!!!
![]() I'm not much of a gambler either, but we do like to go to the casinos up here once in a while. They often have some good golden oldies bands. The entertainment is reasonably priced and if you want to spend the night, the rooms are reasonable. They're also neat and clean. I don't know if it's the same in OK as it is in So. Dak., but for us~it's only legal to have a casino on a rez and they're tribal owned and ran. The only exception is when they allowed gaming back in Deadwood several years ago. It's very possibly a similar situation in OK. And it really does bring $$ to the Natives. ![]()

Same in OK except we don't have reservations as such. The land must be owned by the Tribe, but they can buy the land and put it in trust somehow. It started out with bingo (anyone remember the jingle: Choctaw Indian high stakes bingo), and gradually progressed to poker and blackjack card games.
Many of the casinos are little more than metal buildings from the outside. The other large casino is the one near Thackerville, close to Texas. |

We went to the Osage Nation Casino before we moved.
It had just opened up and we were bored so thought we'd run out there for supper. They have a restaurant and snack bar in there. I had heard that the food was really good so was looking forward to it. It was only 9 dollars each for the buffet including drink if memory serves.....which it usually doesn't..... Unfortunately it was pretty bad, the food was all dried out and pretty cheapie type stuff.....I don't know what I expected but it was gross. We didn't eat much. Our waitress was wonderful, friendly very attentive. Another of our problems was the cigarette smoke in there. I'm not on my soap box, I just didn't think about it...I'm kinda slow that way sometimes.... Even though the restaurant was sort of separate it still wasn't....there was an opening to the rest of the casino which let in tons of noise and smoke. For a new casino it really smelled bad. That was the other problem for us. We went into the casino part looking around and goofing off but couldn't stay because of the smoke. I mean it was soo bad in there with no adequate ventilation. You couldn't see halfway across the room. I don't mind some smoke. This was just way overpowering. I know there's the Indian tobacco business as well but I just figured they'd have some good ventilation fans going. Lots of slot machines going with lots of people at them....It was strange watching everyone. We had to leave though because we were getting sick. Dave |

Tahlequah has Indian casinos. they don't sell alcohol in them. seems they don't serve food either, but I am not sure. I have heard from people that it is hard to win money at an Indian casino (at least that is what I heard about the ones in California), so these people go to Las Vegas. Like Peggy I don't gamble myself; don't even buy lottery tickets.
