My question is would a caucasian couple with two adopted African-American children who are Christians be welcomed in Holdenville (truly)? Our children have won kindness awards at their current school in GA. But we have experienced some issues that have broken this mommy's heart!! I don't want to risk even more negativity and rejection-that is why I ask. And please, don't make comments that will break my heart even more!!
Bless your heart. My adopted daughter is Eastern Indian, while my husband and I and son are not. She's currently in Mustang High School where she is a new student (we just moved to Mustang from NJ in February). She has been totally accepted, and has made many friends. I subbed in the Mustang schools the past couple of weeks, and I have found all the children seem to treat each other nicely and with respect. My daughter has been subjected to questions over the years as to why she's "brown" and her family is white. She usually shrugs her shoulders and says "I'm adopted." No one has ever said anything beyond that. Keep in mind that people are VERY friendly in Oklahoma, and it rubs off on their children.

Likewise there are a lot of friendly folks in GA, too. Unfortunately, there are still a few that make life miserable for many by their divisiveness (totally not what Jesus taught on the subject BTW!!)

I think Mustang (correct me if I'm wrong) is near OK City? Some of my In-laws live around there, but we are looking for a smaller, tighter community. But again, not one that has ideas like the rural folks of GA!!

You are so right!! My Georgia-born father is all about, "The Civil War!" It just goes to show how anger and bitterness can be past from generation to generation!! I try to live by my other Father's rules!!

I'm sure you can guess how popular this daughter is with her earthly daddy!!

P.S. My dad looks well put together and puts up a good, "front" for folks. I said that because he doesn't look or act like the stereotypical Civil War/ Billy Ray type. Worse, in my opinion as far as being a devil in disquise. Unfortunately, most folks look at the outer garment/skin to determine a lot about a person!!

There are always going to be a few ignorant people no matter where you live. And keep in mind the one they make most miserable is themselves. I can't imagine how depressing and exhausting it must be to hate so many people. To me it's too much work.

Mustang is a little southwest of OKC. About a 30 minute drive into downtown. It's very community minded, and we really like it here. There are a lot of churches, so I'm sure you would find one to your liking. We've had people invite us to their church, but we haven't started the church search yet.

My sis-n-law lives in Midwest City. She has mentioned that there is high gang activity there. Any problems with gangs of any sort in Mustang?

I sure have appreciated your input!! Thank you!!

P.S.

Yes, you are so right!! I've lived in California and people were mean to the Mexican population. In Bellingham, Washington, it is the Lummi Indian Tribe. Georgia, the African-American, etc.,etc. Stinky human nature I'm afraid!!

I came from a town in NJ that had gang members, and there were several in all the classes I subbed for. In subbing in Mustang HS, I would say there weren't ANY that I could identify as such.

Thank you!! It has been too long since I've lived in any rough areas of the country, and besides that, I certainly would not want our precious babes in any danger also. I spent some childhood years in the Bay area in the early to late '70's, that was rough enough!

BTW, all of my brother's wife's family are from NJ. They always have a way of cracking me up!!

To survive in NJ, you have to have a great sense of humor.
