Ursela is on a distinguished road
Default Oklahoma attractions and dining

Does anyone know about the great dining in Oklahoma? We love dining out and doing the family thing with the kids. Are there in links that I could go to that could inform me on the family activities that you all have there in Oklahoma? Thanks.

There was a good thread on here about dining but my links to other threads never work.

You could search the forum for OKC dining and find it. We have quite a selection of restaurants.

How old are the kids? What do they like to do?

Let me start with a place to avoid.....Toby Keith's in Bricktown. Moldy tortillas in a wrap tend to turn my stomach....and when brought to the attention of the wait staff, being told that I don't know what it is, is enough to make me NEVER go back and suggest to others that they would be better off at McDonald's...........I'll be 60 before long and spent a lot of my time in New Mexico and west Texas....moldy tortilla's I'm familiar with.

There is no one food in Oklahoma that says "Oklahoma." However, places to try out just to say you've experienced them include:

Ikes Chili. On east Admiral in Tulsa. Been around for 100 years. It's been featured on Martha Stewart.

Ron's Hamburgers. Several locations around Tulsa. Excellent chili. The sausage/hamburger smothered in chili and pepper jack cheese is great. The Ron's special with Cure 89 ham is as good.

Pauline's. Fried Catfish in Catoosa. In front of the Cherokee Casino Resort. Fried catfish, chicken, and sides. Lunch is about $5.00 +/-

Bodean's. Tulsa. Fresh Seafood. As good as it gets this far from the ocean.

White River Fish Market. Fresh Seafood. North Sheridan in Tulsa. Unpretentious but pretty good.

Jamil's Steakhouse. Tulsa since 1947. Legends, including John Wayne and Jayne Mansfield have had dinner there. It is a Lebanese steakhouse, so the appetizers included in the meal include Tabouli, Hummus, cabbage rolls, BBQ ribs, smoked bologna, celery, radishes, and onions.

Freddies Steakhouse Since the early 80's, same menu as Jamil's, on the Sapulpa Highway in Sapulpa.

Freddies in Drumright. Different Freddie, same menu as Jamil's.

Freddies in Mannford. Different Freddie, same menu as Jamil's overlooks Keystone Lake.

Pete's Place, Krebs (McAlester). Good Italian food, Home of Choc Beer.......a notorious pre-abolition beverage that survived.

Eskimo Joes, Stillwater......not as good as it's hype, but decent.

Hammett House, in Claremore....Family Dining and a general purpose menu.

Hugo's restaurant, in Claremore. Best Breakfast cafe in NE Oklahoma. They close at 2 in the afternoon.

Weber's Hamburgers on Brookside in Tulsa. decent hamburgers, but ranked as one of the best home brewed rootbeers in the nation.

Las Vegas Restaurants and Dining at Harrah's Las Vegas

Good pasture. Warn Vegas and a number of other cities the same about the Toby Keith thing bar and whatever...It really aint that bad...It is designed to be more of a bar to watch football...200 plasma screens?

Jamils? It is kinda a chain. To be honest it is not that great anymore. It has gone down hill. My Grand Pa always went there in the 80s!Where The Locals Eat | Guide To The Best Restaurants In America

So was the original Jamils in Tulsa?

I really like Lebanese cuisine anywhere anytime. Eddie's Steakhouse on Meridian btw NW 39th & NW 50th in OKC is good and has the Lebanese appetizers as well.

I dont know. But it looks like the years would say so. The one on Lincoln Blvd north of the capitol complex is the only one I have been to. It really looks nice and has a great atmosphere...To just be honest the food wasnt that great and the staff was snobby. I will admit the lebanese rolls were great(maybe I had a bad experience). The mediterranean market in OKC on May is to die for. I also wonder whatever happened to Sleepy Hollow...I remember my family always being pushy about wanting more and more biscuits w/honey. The staff would always slowly make the biscuits get browner and browner until we would leave..lol. Another great lebanese rest in OKC is Zorba's...fantastic food. I had the pleasure of being a regular when it was a hole in the wall. It got better and better until it moved or something. I havent eaten there in a long time (couple of years). I will have to check out Eddies.

I haven't been to the Jamils on Lincoln in a long time. Their schedule is not convenient for us. We went to the one in Edmond when it was still there, but it was not as good. Sleepy Hollow, something happened there to close it, some legal thing I think. I really love the Mediterranean Deli. I get 12 cabbage rolls and 12 grape leaf rolls, take them home, add lemon juice and canned stewed tomatoes to the cabbage rolls, and warm them all up. Then they are the way my ex-grandmother-in-law from Damascus made them. Plus I always get a bag of olives from those big pails. I have to look over their shelves of imported items and always find stuff I can't do without. There is a large community of Lebanese-Americans in OKC. I think their ancestors all came over in the early 1900's.

Ursela, does any of this appeal to you? We got a little off topic of family restaurants and activities. Do you like more the Golden Corral type of food? I eat there a lot because my husband is a meat and potatoes guy, and I like salads and vegetables. It is fast and we both have what we want in a casual atmosphere at a good price. I see a lot of families with kids in there too. We also have the Delta Cafe for Southern food. For good fried chicken, Eischen's in Okarche is really famous. For catfish, the Steak and Catfish Barn just north of Edmond on I-35 and Waterloo Road can't be beat. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is cool. We also have a lot of pizza places, Hideaway is great, so is Milanos and the kids always love Chucky Cheeses. What about hamburgers from the Charcoal Oven? Getting hungry. I have to stop reading these food threads.
