I thought it would be neat to celebrate all the diverse musicians and their great music that Oklahoma has had over the years.

List your favorite Oklahoma singer and/or favorite song about Oklahoma (musician doesn't need to be from OK)...or simply even a song with a reference to Oklahoma in it somewhere. Whatever floats your boat. Just something to do with Oklahoma. There are a bunch of musicians/bands and a plethora of songs that I can think of just off the top of my head.

If you're able, find pertinent links and leave a link/video to the song.

Alright, here's my entry in honor of great Okie Woody Guthrie:

I don't know why the first song named was not "Oklahoma" from the musical of the same name by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

This is a hauntingly beautiful ballad by one Michael Hedges who grew up in Enid.

Michael Hedges is probably the greatest "new age" guitarist/singer to ever live.

He was killed in a car crash in northern California just about a month after this performance.

EG,

Interesting song. It was haunting.

Reminded me of some of the music that I used to listen to when I was gettin' sauced up back in my younger days! That diddy at the end caught me off guard and made me chuckle.

Sad and sorry to hear that he has passed away. He clearly had some unique gifts.

Well, you could be the first to post a link to it and solve that problem...

I'm with ya on Ragweed, GP! I love me some Red Dirt and Oklahoma has some of the best Red Dirt you can find....it did BEGIN (Stillwater) here, in fact, with all due respect to our Texas friends you like to claim it more than we do.

Ragweed....it's just good music.

Here's one of my favorites:
