It is the season of giving but when you get the letter in the mail or the telemarketing asking you for money how do you know how much of your money will really go to help the Veterans, the children or to buy food baskets or whatever the telemarketer is calling about?

How much will go to pay the fundraisers--the telemarketer who just called your number or the one who sent you the letter?

Certain charities are not evaluated by charitynavigator.org and some organizations do not even show up when you do a search.

However, on Charity Navigator - Evaluating Charities Not Currently Rated by Charity Navigator.
on the right of the page the 990 Finder allows you to look at filed tax info even if they are not currently rated by charity navigator.

Simply, type in the non-profit's name (make sure you spell it correctly) but do NOT put in the state as it may not have been set up in the state you think it was.
When you click on one to see what is on their IRS tax information you can see their assets, the amount they spent on fundraising, the amount paid to their officers and compare it to the amount taken in.
