Along that line, I watched "The High Cost of Low Price" again last night. You can rent the DVD. It's about Walmart (which I've been boycotting for several years now), and it's a real eye-opener. Here in our small town we have a Home Depot, which DH and I bypass for our local ACE hardware store whenever possible. Other than that we have all small locally owned stores which we patronize whenever possible. I just hate what these big box stores have done to the landscape and the local economies.

I love my local Ace hardware store. There's always an elderly guy around to help you find something. They really are the "helpful hardware" folks!

I would like to know what town you live in? Im planning a move to Oklahoma from California. I had pretty much thought about Grove area but after reading this forum Im getting really confused as to where to move to..They all sound nice in one way or the other..Does anyone know anything about Wagoner? I was there a couple of years ago and the people were so friendly...

I just moved to Duncan,OK. from CoCal. last summer. It's a small, quite, peacful town, with no illegals in sight, so far anyway. People are very friendly, it's just the opposite of SoCal. including financially.
In fact, I have an spare bd room if you need to make a stop while your still looking.
Just getting accustomed the OK. way of life.

You are funny, mk. You are getting to be a real friendly Okie.
Cat, there are so many nice little towns in OK, I'm sure it is confusing.

I know what you mean. Rumor has it that Target and a Home Depot are coming to Stillwater.

Target? I love Target. I wish Tahlequah had a Target, Cost Plus or other Import store, Costco and Trader Joes.

So what is Trader Joes? Is it a grocery store or a department store?

From the ones I've see in Ca, it's more of a( non low cost) Sports/Department/Retail. Someone may have a better discription.

I like the idea of buying locally, but it's not always possible, or close to affordable. In my case, for instance, I got my cell phone on ebay at less than 1/4 the price of a new one - but it had a defective battery. I contacted the seller because they guaranteed their phones, and got a new battery for free. The second one worked but doesn't hold a charge for long. I called the local authorized dealer to find out how much they sold new batteries for - a new battery was 39.95. I checked on line and found a dealer who sells OEM batteries and accessories, and got one for 1.99, plus a couple dollars shipping. If I'd bought locally, I'd have had to find a neighbor to drive me into town [a 45 mile round trip], I'd have had to pay for the gas [at least 20.00], and probably buy lunch [25.00-30.00]. I'm not complaining about the gas or lunch, it's a fairly cheap price to pay for an outing which I'd enjoy, but that would have been one very expensive battery! I'm not fond of WallyWorld, but I've gone a few times in the past 5 years when someone offers to take me along. It's usually a bust, because whatever it is that I've had on my list of things to get, they don't have. The one exception was a TV, and that was 3 years ago. Since the alternative would have been one of the chain electronic stores, I don't see that it made much difference where I got it.
