Hi Jeanette,
I'm from Ada, although I don't live there now. I currently live in Dallas. You'll definitely be in culture shock when you move from Connecticut. Not that I'm against Ada, it's a fine town; just radically different from the Northeast. But I would say that if you were moving to Dallas as well. Ada is a small college town (East Central University) in East Central Oklahoma. For most of my life, Ada was a sleepy town with absolutely nothing going on in the way of business or development. About 5 years ago that began to change. The Chickasaw (Indian) Nation is headquartered there and being they are given a distinct advantage in government contracts due to the minority disadvantaged status, they have been making money hand over fist and this has translated into an economic boom for the area. Ada's geography is generally gently rolling hills. The largest employers are the Chickasaw Nation and Prepaid Legal Services. If you can get a job with the Chickasaw Nation you will be doing well. Although I live in Texas I work for them (Chickasaw Nation) and the pay/benefits are great. Even if you live in Ada they pay great as well. There is a lot of building going on in and around Ada right now, and believe it or not, the housing prices are fairly high, although not nearly as expensive as in Connecticut or Texas. Ada has a great park, called Wintersmith Park (google it) that is very beautiful. The University there is okay, but I didn't go to college there; it was primarily what they called a "teachers" college for many years but I believe they have alot more going on there these days.
What else.. The weather is very moderate. The Winters are nowhere near as cold as what you'd see in Connecticut, but it can get pretty cold at times. The summers are generally hot, as they are in that part of Ok and (even worse) here in Texas. The people are nice, and the crime rate I'm pretty sure is low. All in all, it's not a bad place to live, but even though I'm from there (actually born there, from east of there) it's not the garden spot of the universe, but, it's not the worst place to live either. I'd rather live there than here in Dallas. If I had my druthers I'd live on a farm in Talequah or somewhere else in Southeastern Oklahoma. As far as cities go, there's no place like Tulsa. I hope this helps. Anything else you need to know, just PM me and I'll be glad to let you know more.
