I was born in Ponca City. I graduated from Po-Hi as did my father and as did his mother. So, at least half of me is very much Ponca-Okie. The other half is from overseas. I have visited my mother's homeland and I felt nothing...there was nothing holding me or trying to pull me in. It was just another tourist destination. Oklahoma, though, that's a different story. I just returned from a number of years in Asia. I was here on vacation in August and the pull was so strong that I ended up moving back here in September. So, I guess my roots are firmly planted here, considering that they stretched all the way over the ocean and held on for years and still had the strength to drag me back here.

Wonderful posts from everyone... Thank-you! Nice to know I'm not the only one who feels that inexplicable *tug*.
Choctaw2, Keep dreaming and planning... it took me 10 long, frustrating years before the "perfect moment" came. When it happened I GRABBED the opportunity and ran like mad!

Since age 16 I dreamed of living in the Ozark Mountains. Never really thought I would ever get here. Well, it is at the edge of them, and that is enough for me. I visited Mexico's jungles and wanted to live where there were jungles, and where I live in Oklahoma it is a jungle. Only I have been chopping my own down. I dreamed of owning a house since the age of 45 when I rented a farm house for the first time in my life instead of apartments. Now I own a farm house on 1/2 acre, but it is in town, not that we couldn't have bought in the country, but as I am now older I may have to one day depend upon public transportation. Wouldn't it be something to reach 95 and say, "I could have lived in the country all along?" So just don't stop dreaming, but also make plans. I never made plans because I didn't know it was possible. So think like it is possible and take steps.

Both my parents are from Oklahoma. My father was from Delaware County near Grove and we still have family there. My moms and grandma was from Osage County near Bartlesville (I am 1/4th Osage). They are all buried in Blackwell.

I have lived in Oklahoma most of my life. My son was born in Poteau, but to be honest my roots are only about that deep. I sure love it though, hate the extreme weather though.

Finally back "home" after being away for 16+ years! My roots are deep, at least 2 generations in all directions are from Oklahoma. I moved away chasing the American dream and the almighty dollar only to be homesick and spending my vacations coming back here to visit family and friends. Lived in the Denver area for a while, didn't like it. Lived in Ohio for quite a while and it was OK, but in a small town so it helped. Grew up in the Tulsa area, high school in Sapulpa. Hunting and fishing all over the state, especially fond of Lake Tenkiller and the Illinois river areas. Opportunity presented itself and now I live back "home" in Ponca City, OK. Not my original home (Sapulpa), but closer than Denver or Ohio! Glad to be back "home".

"We came back to visit my Dad in 1994 and the moment I stepped out of the car I knew I was HOME. Very hard to explain, but the sensation was overwhelming...when our 3 weeks were up I cried off and on all the way back to CA and I vowed to return HOME someday, someway!!"
It's about time you got home Young Lady!!! Seriously tho, when did you move here Lady R? I haven't read all the posts yet, (but I will) so if mentioned already, sorry. Does your family like it here? I hope so because now that you're here, we aren't letting you leave! Now, if we can just get Choctaw back here where he belongs!
