Wow!! Some really good advice here. I have raised 5 kids in the Tulsa-Jenks area. Drugs are here. What is important to me is how the school deals with the problem. Our schools have implemented the DARE program and the peer pressure kids put on each other NOT to do them is what I value. I live by the "give a man a fish" approach. It's a good idea to try to find a safe place to live. But it is better to teach children how to survive and make good choices. Jenks is extremely strict and the teachers and officials watch every move the children make. There are cameras everywhere and offenders are dealt with harshly and swiftly. The kids are great informants!!

Poteau is a really cute town. It's sort of nesteled in hills and is just adorable.

Desert, you didn't mention if employment is a concern for you. That would make a big difference for where you'd be able to live. You probably know that some of the small towns don't have an abundance of jobs.

Our fave town is Grove. It's built around Grand Lake and is a resort type setting. It has a low population (Now yet) and appears to be a very safe area. The only thing I'm not sure of is if there's a drug problem there. I'd guess a few people do it, but my only concern would be that since it's a popular summer town, visitors may bring their addictions into town. BUT I'm only speculating on that. It just seems like a peaceful, beautiful little town.

I also live in a good, safe town, but I KNOW there is drug use here and meth labs in the country near here. Every once in a while law enforcement finds one.

Jammie, I didn't see if you posted your trip. If you have, where is it? If not, why not post it under Day Trips? I would love to hear about it.
