I agree. People should be more self-reliant. That's one of the reasons I want to move back to the country.

I think it's an excellent thing! I think all the illegals should go back to their countries and apply for citizenship or green cards like all the poeple who did it the correct way... They did it, so it's not fair that the others just get to come here and get away with not doing stuff right. And yes, please take all the drug dealers and crackheads with ya. We don't need those people here anymore either.

When your business model includes a plan for breaking the law, you should plan for a disruption sooner or later..........

Yes, I know of a wholesale nursery here that has all Latinos for workers, and he said that he would hate losing them. Do you think that Americans will take their place? I fear not. But I heard on the news that the US would make it possible for farm workers to stay? We'll see.

I would have chickens but my husband thinks they are too noisy, but I think that the ticks are too dangerous. Maybe someday he will change his mind. Good idea to grow your own food. We have yet to learn how. Our last veggie garden got flooded and died. Maybe someday.

actually my brother in law works out at park hill nursery. Just inside of tahlequah.

They actually stepped up and started taking action before the law was instated. They started with the, if you dont have an ID, you didnt have a job. Then they stepped it back to birth certificate, green card etc.

Theyre losing alot of people. But arnt hiring much more on. Because welll....legals cost more...

Jes
If you dont like ticks invest in ya some gennies (i dont know how its spellled but sounding it out. hard "G" Gen-knee) they eat all them little bugs on the ground. Should be able to get them at the tractor supply behind mcdonalds in tahlequah. I dont really care for em.The look just like chickets except there gray and fatter. They like to get caught in the grill of my truck. Or you spread tick granuals before a expected rain, and it will get rid of 99% of them.

Tell me have you ever driven bya large chicken coop. Id hate to have that smell around me....JMO. If someone likes hunting rifle season for deer starts up here around the 20th of november. animals are attracted to my pickup. so there is no need for me to wake up at 5am to go hunting. Last time i did it got frozen to the deer stand.

as far as gardening. You go your basic plants, carrots, lettuce, and wha tnot. But for some reason this area grows some magnificant hot peppers.

Yes the country is a great place to live. I have a beatiful place out here one 59 acres surronded by family its a nuthouse. but its kinda costly. driving wise. heck just for me to go to work a day...is about 45 miles per trip. My parents, Who drive to tulsa everyday is..120+ miles. They have a "gas saver" i have a "gas guzzler" they spend 20 bucks and itll last them two days, same for me...half the miles.HEck if i could get good MPG out of my truck and have its rumble and performance, Id go for it...but you cant have your cake and eat it to.

A_G, You are talking about Guinea Fowl! (Took me a minute to remember what they were. )

My Dad has quite a few running around his place too... best little bug catchers in the WORLD. Between those and the Wild Turkeys he has NO problem with ticks around his place. Guineas will eat just about any type of bug including bees and wasps!

A-G, I suggested Guinea hens to my husband, and he said that he hated them because they were too noisy; same with chickens. They would probably fly the coop anyway. Last time we had guinea hens they left our property and headed on down the street. That was in Florida, so a gator probably ate them since they were never seen again.

I use the granules, and after doing that twice we had no more problems, but of course we both had to get rocky mountain spotted tick fever first.

I lived in two towns that had chicken farms, and the air was fowl.

I put in some vegetables, but something ran off with my chile peppers, and the squirrels ate all of the 3 tomatoes that ripened. The rain this year washed out everything else, so I had to build a ditch around my garden. Next year it goes somewhere else, like in the sun, not the shade. But when I planted it, it was sunny, but the sun changed course as time when on. Next year I will know better; hopefully.
