Default Oklahoma should be proud!!

Oklahoma Immigration Bill Approved By Senate

For a change, Oklahoma is at the forefront of something we can be very proud of! There is absolutely no logical means to argue against this bill, none! Bottom line, these people are here illegally, period! It's nothing against immigrants, for God's sake this country was founded with immigrants, but it needs to be done legally. And for all those people who cry, "but those people are here doing jobs most Americans won't do!" Hog wash, you know why, because 40 years ago, weren't lawns being mowed, wasn't concrete being poured, wasn't crops being picked, weren't houses being built? Of course they were, by legal citizens! Americans will do all this type work, here is the catch, at a fair pay scale. If prices go up, so be it, the market will settle in and prices will stabilize, simple economics!

And if you think this bill isn't a good thing, why are a bunch of states now rushing to implement the exact same bills in their states???

Boomer Sooner and proud of it!!

Before the Senate and the House get too far into their backslapping and chest thumping, did they mention any specifics on how this is to be accomplished?

Or do they foresee rounding up illegals and taking them to ICE (which is what INS is now called) in OKC, which is already overcrowded. I have been told (secondhand of course) that after being picked up and taken to the Federal holding facility, many illegals can come up with a sum of money and be let go from OKC (I forgot the name of the detention/holding facility), never to be heard from again.

And what about when they return, in say, 2 or 3 weeks? I deal with a lot of illegals in the criminal justice system and many have been deported before. If there was no work to be had, they wouldn't be here. The whole process requires more manpower and funding than what is there now.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Well the fact that if you render housing or employee illegals, you, as a landlord or business owner will risk going to jail. The way the bill is written is brilliant, it will cause, already has, self deportation. No need to worry about rounding up the illegals, they'll leave on their own. No landlord, or business owner, wants to risk themselves going to jail over hiring, renting to illegals. If there are no jobs, and no place to stay, the illegals will not want to come to Oklahoma. Very simple concept!

This is not directed at you redbird, but your post brings up an interesting point. These days, whenever a law or ordinance comes out that seems to address the touchy subject of illegal immigration, I often hear a lot of "It will be difficult to enforce," and "it's just too much," which basically goes against the attitude on how this country was built.

Here, we have a very problematic issue (and if you ask me, it's not the illegals that are the problem [they are a symptom], it is the greedy politicians and businesses in this country that want to use these people for their own gain) and every time a method is brought up that can at least be looked upon as a beginning to a solution all I often hear people saying is "it can't be done." Something has to be done, and in my opinion, granting amnesty to however many millions there are here is not the answer.

I think we as a country really need to take a good long look at ourselves and try and find out what has gone wrong. Have we really just turned into a defeatist nation that accepts things as being too tough because of inconvenience?

I think the Oklahoma law, as brian has brought up, is a very simple solution. Go after the employers and people that are the magnet for illegal aliens (of any nationality) and the problem goes a long way toward correcting itself.

Not an Okie here, BUT I'm extremely proud of what Oklahoma has accomplished since they've starting working on this. Several months ago there was a thread after Tulsa had passed the same law that is fashioned after the state law. Unfortunately, it had to be moved to the "Immigration" forum, but it's still there in the archives somewhere.

At that point, I emailed my own Gov. and begged him to research it and consider doing the same for our own state. His reply was that he was actually already following it closely and if he sees the need for action in our state, he's on top of it. AS OF NOW, my own state isn't have this problem, but we want to remain vigilante and not get into the mess that so many other states are already in. I say, "HooRay for Oklahoma!!!"

Synopsis, I think the vast blessings of America have caused us to become collectively lazy and spoiled. We are used to having things done for us. We are apathetic because we can be and it's less effort than actually fixing things.

It's sad.

I am glad to see we are taking some action on the subject of illegal immigration.

Good point. I understand the concept of the immigration bill, I am only asking for clarification. When, where and how does it happen? Who goes after them? Is there going to be "illegal-busters" task force? Round up the landlords and CEO's of factories and stick them in county jails with the meth heads and DUI''s?

I don't see any landlord or employer going to jail. They will most likely be fined-hit em where it hurts! *their pocket books.

I appreciate the happiness over finally getting the immigration law to pass, but I advise the "Illegal-free" party planners to wait and see how it goes. A lot of bills are passed and a lot of laws are in words, but not enforced.

And I am sure more than one politican will use the bill passage as a means to get more votes. "See? I voted yes on the immigration bill!"

We watched a bit of news on CNN today and this very law was a topic of discussion on there. They interviewed a gent named Dan Howard. The topic was more centered around the new Tulsa laws. The guy has a great sense of humor and is very straight forward.

They also spoke with the police captain who said at this point, they weren't actively searching for them, BUT would apprehend them if they came across them during police calls.

Another gent on the street agrees with the new law.

The illegals are now scared to be in the street or to go to work and are screaming that they're being discriminated against. DUH~not citizens~don't contribute to our tax base~don't fight in our military~don't speak our language, etc. BUT they demand the same rights that all Americans have????

They can all go to Arkansas! The Governor there is using the same old tired "enforcement just can't be done" pathetic jargon. I guess a lot of businesses in Arkansas who employee these people instead of legal citizens are good friends/contributors of his. When this country decides that we "cannot" enforce our nation's laws, we have had it.

Congratulations to Oklahoma for not caving in to special interest groups and taking a firm, and much needed, stand on this issue.

And as the illegals leave and move to Arkansas, where they are welcomed with open arms, please take the gangbangers and crackheads with you.
