Do you mean the one in Lawton? I hope this link works. This thread has a lot of info about Lawton. Ft Sill Bound: Need Help
It doesn't work, so maybe you could search the forum for Ft Sill and Lawton. Many people will soon be moving to Ft Sill in Lawton, so there have been many questions. I don't live there. Good luck! |

Well, I was going to counteract it with a good rep, but they want me to spread my cheer around before giving you a good rep again.

I live in the Lawton area, but don't know everything about the Goodyear plant. What I do know:
Full time workers do indeed work on those strange 12 hour shifts. A couple of friends (and former coworkers) work out there and I can't keep up with how their schedules work. They might work 4 days, then be off three, then work 7 nights and then be off a long as 12 days and back and forth. The work is repetitive and schedules are strange. But quite a few people have little problem handling it. There's a number of sub-contracting companies out there at the Lawton plant. Some of those workers simply work on 40 hour weeks Monday thru Friday. Other technical workers may be on call to report to the plant anytime. I don't know the pay rates out there. Pay is good for full time workers though. Lots of people apply for work out there all the time and wait for a couple years or more for a chance to get on board. I haven't heard of any layoffs taking place at the Lawton plant in all the time I've lived in this area (more than 10 years). Goodyear spent over $200 million expanding the plant earlier this decade to make more kinds of tires for trucks and SUVs. I think the Goodyear plant in Lawton still is the world's largest tire manufacturing plant. Tires for Chevy Corvettes are made at the Lawton plant. Lots of Goodyear employees live outside of Lawton, usually west of town closer to the plant. Many live in Cache. The Cache school district benefits a great deal from Goodyear taxes. I don't know how Goodyear employees are treated at the plant. I haven't heard many complaints. I do know there is a fair amount of "drama" between certain cliques of employees. Some of the workers are pretty young, some not long out of high school. Suddenly they're making good money, but haven't grown out of those high school attitudes. Some of the older employees never grew out of that either. FWIW, there's some varying degree of employee politics and grapevine drama happening in most workplaces. |
